Nice pics guys. The jets and modern airliners are great to fly, but single props and other classics come first in my preference order. The "vanilla" aircraft are great per se, but there are a lot of prop aircraft addons out there, both freeware and payware for one to meddle with, not to mention jets and airliners of all eras.

Toonces, i agree with your obs, it makes sense with those non precision approaches. I'm no seasoned navigator by any means but i believe the best way to understand the different kind of messages the ATCs give when trying different kind of approaches is to study the in game map/charts for navaids, NDBs, VORs, position as well as the GPS (very useful for understanding approaches).

FSX is a marvelous sophisticated sim/game with ENDLESS replay and educational value.

Man, I have a real problem.  I am totally addicted to this right now.  I keep wanting to buy more add-ons.

I am pretty sure FSX is now my most expensive entertainment software, between the base game and all the crap I've added to it since you guys started this thread.

Anyway, I was about to buy the ERJ combo pack from FeelThere but then decided to spend some time with the CLS MD-81 package I picked up on Friday.  I got into the pattern at Kalaeloa which is right down the street from my house and did touch and go's for a while.  I'm starting to get the feel for the jet.  You really have to stay ahead of it; it's not nearly as forgiving as the 737 is.

I would discourage you from purchasing anything by FeelThere... I have several of their products and I will never purchase again.

Really.  Hmmm.  Well that isn't good to hear because I'm rated in the ERJ in my virtual airline and I need something for shorter haul routes.

What don't you like about feelThere?  Is there a better ERJ (specifically ERJ-175/195) that you would recommend?

What's the best terrain software out there? I have UTX - but either I haven't configured it properly, or it's rubbish....or I just fly in rubbish places.

OrbX looks nice....but I don't like the fact it's split down into regions. I'd rather just pay for "THE WORLD".

Do you want Mesh, Terrain textures, or Landclass?

I don't off the top of my head, I just have avoided Feelthere will their lack of support from their releases.

Absolutely no idea. Whichever makes the terrain look "busier" and "real"

1. Terrain Textures
FTX Global
Great terrain textures, 3d night lighting without FPS hit.  My biggest purchase as it is global and the others mentioned.

2. Terrain Mesh
FSGenesis
This is what I own and the world coverage is pretty good.

3.  Land Class
SceneryTech
I own this set and is pretty nice, but if you own UTX then you should be fine with that.  If you do get FTX Global, you will have to change the settings for night lighting.

My #1 recommended terrain add-on is FTX Global, it encompasses the world with great land textures and has night lighting with low to none FPS loss.

Can I ask what the difference is between Textures, mesh and land class? Do I need all 3? You seem to own both mesh and textures

I own all of them....

Textures > Makes the ground look nice.  It is the image files that give the ground, mountain etc....

Mesh > Deals with elevation and representation of land masses like mountains, valleys, rolling plains etc...

Landclass > positions roads, coast lines, towns etc.... in their correct placement.  It has detailed information about the landscape placement.

I own all three, however I would place them in the order above.

It does look nice!.. But whoa at that price!

Well.... it is worth it as you get the entire world and also night lighting is thrown in there.  With the GEX series you have to buy them in different areas (North America, Canada, Europe, Tropics, Middle East) @ $34.95 - 49.95 a piece and South America, Asia etc.... areas are not done... which add up to a lot more and do not include the night lighting.

Thanks PE.

I'm very tempted on them...but does FTX Global still have DX10 issues? It says so in the product page but I don't know if that's up to date

To my knowledge it has not been addressed as of 1.10... however I know it is coming and is a priority.

I highly recommend FTX Global for textures.
As a bonus, the building and forest autogen that comes with it are outstanding. Night lighting as well.

I had no problem with FeelThere ERJ. I find them good and quite detailed.
