I hope World In Flames works out a lot better than Empires in Arms did. I will be waiting to see what kind of reception it gets before ever thinking about buying this one.

Edit: After reading on the forums over there that apparently the only purchase option is going to be physical copy + download, that will almost certainly price me out of buying the game even if it does get good reviews.

1) WTF is going on with that map. I understand it's likely a collectors edition and there are collectors who will want it, hell, I'd like to have a map of the game, but one that is useable. How many people are going to have the space to put that thing up unfolded? Gladly it's an optional item.
2) Nice looking manuals and apparently large print.
3) I'm not a multi player gamer - so no buy for me. Even when there's an AI - what are the chances that it's going to be even remotely good enough? The game is massive. There are lesser strategic games out there with a poor AI (thinking specifically HoI with it's invasions by Brazil on Japan and the like).
4) I LOVE the look of the game - pity there's no AI

I have a big question here - how does the game play out? So initially I believe there's 2 player support and the dev wants to put in up to 12 player support within 3 months. So if there are 2 players - do you actually play half the world?

And from a play perspective, I've never played the board game, but I hear the game has pulses, air, navy, army etc, etc, etc...now I remember watching Empire in Arms get released and I was mildly interested in it - but the ****storm that kicked up because the game was not suitable to pbem was intense. There are so many different factions and so many different events and pulses in the game...I don't know if it's true, but last I heard no-one had completed a game.

Also - remember these patches that screw things up and make you start again - I know that happened in EiA.

It looks a great game - I really like the look - but from a playability perspective, it's not my bag. I don't do MP and with no AI it's a no sale. Whilst an AI is promised, promises should not mean a full price product.

As with previous releases and true to history, Matrix will likely wait until release to spring the price on people and totally destroy the release day for this game rather than announce the price and get the crap "HOW MUCH?" thread out the way before release.

I believe I read that the map actually comes in 24 sections, and is not one big 9' by 21' sheet.

Well I believe SPIEL 2013 ESSEN starts today and they were supposed to make 50 or so copies available at the event so my guess is we will hear some reports of what these folks had to pay (unless they are giving away free, couldn't tell by the news release).

It looks cool and I know people always talk about this game, but for me won't really matter because pure multiplayer games don't interest me and even more so this one seems like a huge monster game that will take a ton of time to play & learn.  Simply don't have enough time in the day for something like this.  Still will be fun reading people's impressions though.

Wow.. Yeah, that's going to pretty much be the total market for this.   Won't find many others willing to take the lunge, especially sans AI and PBEM.   The question is, are the hardcore people going to leave vassal and such?

Some good news from Iain at Matrix (in the same thread) for some people - the map is around 1/2 the cost - and as the map is a separate item, you will not have to stump up 150 Euros - unless you want the map.

Actually the game is going to be more than 150 Euros because that is stated as the discounted prices at Essen.

But still - if you don't want the map - the game looks like it will skin you less than £100
