I do not agree at all that BF games should not be a day one buy.
BF 3 was a solid game from day one. Good fun and working well. The expansions only added more awesomeness.

I prefer any BF game over any CoD game at any time. Don't try to fix what isn't broken is the motto here. CoD, while indeed trying something new, is gimmicky as far as I am concerned. Whereas a huge map of conquest mode in BF never gets old with a bunch of mates.

My rig probably wouldn't be able to handle it at any decent FPS. I've always liked BF more than CoD as well, although I've played mostly modified BF 1942 and BF 2 and not the original versions. I spent/wasted hundreds of hours on Forgotten Hope.

There was just something exciting about being in a bush somewhere with a Panzerfaust/Panzerschreck or Bazooka (or that Russian AT grenade/mine with a little parachute, not an AT weapon for cowards!) and waiting for enemy armour to roll along, or parking a StuG somewhere and ruining the day of some unlucky guys in Shermans. The Shermans had regular AP shells, like every AFV, so they couldn't penetrate the frontal armour of a Panzer IVH or StuG most of the time.

I'm not sure if the more fast-paced FPS are my cup of tea. I can enjoy CoD with friends, but I prefer a somewhat slower FPS that require more planning and patience.

I've just never been one for the CoD series. I loved BF in the past (the first modern one with tanks and in the Middle East, in particular). I think I'll bite.

You won't regret it.  A lot of times the BF series debuts with minor issues - trouble with hit boxes (too small or too large), and there are usually some sort of netcode issue (but a lot of times this is due to the Day 1 crush), but the BF series always matures into one of the finest shooters you can buy.  Sooner or later, we all get it.  :D

I dunno...while BF4 looks like its just more of the same, COD: Ghosts looks like its at least trying to incorporate some fresh ideas...hello...Zero G map!  K-9 units, etc. etc.

I agree.  A lot of people like to bash CoD as always being more of the same, and while it is true that the core shooter experience is the same, I always find that IW and Treyarch always attempt to add as much alteration to the base formula as possible (such as the new Squads system, and the much more deformable maps that are in Ghosts). 

I personally enjoy both games (but statistically I enjoy BF more - I usually wrack up over 100+ hours in a BF game while only wracking up around 75-100 hours in CoD).  I love BF for the big maps, and the high intensity, combined arms warfare.  But I also love CoD for the small maps (yes, that can be a good thing too  :) ) and the highly competitive CQB it offers.  And the SP campaign in CoD is ALWAYS excellent, while BF's campaign is often very hit or miss.   Really, comparing the two is like comparing Team Fortress 2 to Red Orchestra as they are both so different, and offer a vastly different take on the shooter experience - something gamers should celebrate as choice is good.  Now, if they would just add a FOV slider to Ghosts I could happily pre-order (no way in heck I am playing a shooter with a 65 FOV  >:( ).

BTW:  the secret to really enjoying CoD is to play strictly "hardcore mode" where it is often one shot, one kill, and killstreaks are far less frequent.  But for hardcore mode, I would hate CoD as "core mode" is far too game-y.   I don't think enough people are aware of the two distinctive communities in CoD.   :-\

I do agree that CoD offers excellent singleplayer campaigns! Every game in the series has.
Something BF is lacking in many versions indeed.

I already have BF4 preloaded :). I'm curious about CoD: Ghosts, but considering IW is only IW in name any more and all the magic that was there is now working on Titanfall, I plan on waiting to see how it is received.

Are they bringing back private servers and a proper server browser?  I hardly played BF3 at all because I really disliked the web-paged based front end.  I'd fire up the game, get that stupid effing screen and any interest I had in played quickly died and I shut it down again.

I will certainly not buy it at launch, I played the dumbed-down version for XBox 360 (beta) and the gfx were underwhelming. I will wait until early next year and buy it together with a PS4 (BF4 is one of the system-sellers for me and the reason to buy a next-gen console).

Yeah...the only time I will buy a shooter on console is if it is a console exclusive or the PC version will not be released for some time after the console version hits retail.  IGN even had a preview of a demo walk through on the ps4 that noted there may be cause for concern. Even on a next gen console, the graphics were far inferior to those of the PC.

These games usually shine on the PC, but are hit or miss on any other platform, and that is just from a technical perspective....
