No personal experience with the rest but TaL interests me.  I'll be curious to hear how easy it was for you to pick up and whether you think that it has the replayability in it to go back on to your table after several plays.

I've been happy with it.  As JD mentioned, it has more of a 'tactical element' than most of the "Leader" games since you have to not only account for AA cover and the higher value targets when flying but also use/avoid terrain as needed.  It livens up the aircraft movement quite a bit.

I don't think I'll enjoy any of the other "Leader" games as much, now that I've played TAL with it's randomized hex terrain setup.  It livened that up quite a bit and since Dan mentioned that Tiger Leader has similar use of terrain hex tiles, I'll be thinking hard on adding that one to my slowly growing collection.

Let us know what you end up thinking of Republic of Rome. I've been tempted previously. Some positive words here will probably push me over the edge.  ;D

Will do.

It may be awhile until I fire that one up.  I wanted an intrigue & backstabbery sorta game in this buying spree and this one seemed to be a bit unusual in that it also forces you to work together (to beat foreign invasion) despite playing against each other.  Sounds like a fun mix, but the same situation just screams for as many players as possible and I doubt a full experience can be had with only two or three players.   Rounding up more than that, at the same time, may be a chore.

Thx again!

I acquired Bouvines 1214 a few weeks ago.  Here I have deployed the French Army:

Cool. Can you give us some background on the battle. I'm not familiar with it.

Bouvines was the result of King John of England's sneaky plan to defeat Phillip II of France.  John was Richard the Lionheart's younger brother and he inherited a war with France over the Angevin holdings in France.  John had been losing the war for 10 years and in 1214 he had a plan to lure Phillip's main army south with his own troops while everybody else from the Portuguese to an English force under William Longsword attacked from the low countries (then part of the HRE).  By July, John had been thwarted and the main French army set out to knock out the big northern force before it could complete its assembly – BUT – SURPRISE – when the main French Army arrived to attack, they found the forces that the Holy Roman Emperor Otto IV had assembled were too big and/or formidable (having lots of good pikemen for example) and the French retreated and Otto pursued.  Then on Sunday, July 27, 1214, the French suddenly turned and deployed on a restricted front that favored their smaller (or at least less formidable) force allowing their somewhat shaky militia infantry to deploy in two lines for example.
Otto deployed somewhat hastily and attacked pretty crudely.  Things began to go wrong for Otto and company, though they nearly killed Phillip and probably did kill his horse.  Segments of Otto's force were successively isolated and routed and Otto's followers did him the favor of hauling him off the battlefield.  In the end, after pulling themselves together a few times and renewing their attacks, the French won a resounding victory and captured most of their noble foes (over a hundred) and killing almost 200 lesser knights and thousands of their retainers and pikemen.   As a result of all this – among other things – John ended up signing the Magna Carta.

Wowsers.

That's a fine battle to play, I'd say. Thanks for the history lesson!

What do you mean Nefaro?

Fifty three pounds?  Isn't that like eighty-five or ninety dollars, american?  :o  So the regular Sixty pound price is around a hundred?

JudgeDredd

Ah - yeah....about that.

I don't mind paying those prices for board games though. And I've been wanting a Battle of Britain one for some time.

I'll try and not let It interfere with my LnL Blood and Bridges AAR which I hope to be starting properly soon (still reading the rules)
