Well, that's their claim, anyway.  They have a zero-knowledge policy which means they can't access your data.*

For comparison, it works similarly to Dropbox and has clients available for Linux, Windows, Mac, Android, iOS and even Maemo.  It's more featureful than Dropbox though; I haven't used all the features yet because I haven't wrapped my head around them.  Like Dropbox, the client sits quietly in the background until you call it, and will sync seamlessly between as many devices as you like.

It comes with the seemingly industry-standard 2GB of free space.  You can buy more, or get more via referrals.  As such, I humbly offer my referral link - you and I will both get an extra GB.  If you're not comfortable doing that, just create your own account at the website.

* With the resulting caveat: "However, if can't reset your password from another machine and the hint has still not helped you remember your password, then I'm afraid your only option is to open a new account. Here at SpiderOak we take our zero-knowledge privacy policy very seriously, so we never have any knowledge of your password and no way to retrieve or reset it, even in emergencies. It's our way of ensuring that our customers' data is always completely secure"

Wow, I've been credited with the extra space already!  Thanks Staggerwing!  You should get 3GB now...let's hope that's the case and I hope you enjoy Spideroak.  I used to have Dropbox myself, but I've read a few stories about their security so I moved everything to Spideroak and closed the account.

My new account shows 3 Gig. Thanks for bringing this to our attention.

As far as security goes, I will only upload low-level items to any cloud account. Spideroak may not know my password but I'm sure the NSA keystroke logger does.

I encrypt everything I upload. :)
