What novel?

It's called Fourth Crisis: The Battle for Taiwan.

It was on for $1.49 as one of the Kindle Daily Deals 3-4 weeks ago.  I think it's one of the new, direct-to-Kindle type books.  I've been playing a bit of Command: Modern Air/Naval Operations lately so I was looking for something along the lines of Red Storm Rising but with newer toys.  On that basis, the novel delivers.  It's got all the new naval toys in it but is a bit light on technical details.  As a story, it's not so great.  Characters are pretty cliched and two-dimensional and the story doesn't really have any surprises to it.

It really does need an editor and a proofreader.  The number of grammatical errors and spelling mistakes in the novel is enough to make an English teacher kill himself via paper cuts.  The author repeatedly tries to pluralize a noun by adding an apostrophe and an "s" to the end of it.  He also repeatedly switches tense from simple past to simple present, sometimes in the same sentence.  It really detracts from the narrative but for $1.49 what can one expect?

oh I think they could have for a short critical time if it played out for them right.
Jarhead - Yeah. You're probably right.

Gus - I use sweatpants with flannel shorts to soak up my crotch sweat.

Banzai Cat - There is no "partial credit" in grammar. Like anal sex. It's either in, or it's not.

Mirth - We learned long ago that they key isn't to outrun Star, it's to outrun Gus.

Martok - I don't know if it's possible to have an "anti-boner"...but I now have one.

Gus - Celery is vile and has no reason to exist. Like underwear on Star.

I've been eyeing this one.  Thanks for the feedback.

Maybe they could have, but I wonder if they ever just looked at the odds and said "maybe not."

BanzaiCat

It's still 1.49. I accidentally bought it just now...damn tremors, that's what I'll blame it on.

I always imagined there would be more confrontation involving China one day, but I thought it would be more along the border with Russia or one of the old soviet republics, and somehow involving the US or its allies.I remember a PC game from Red Storm depicting a future 21st century conflict (2015 actually).

It was called Force 21, although I never had a chance to play it.

I wonder if they feel a need to make a play for Taiwan before the Nobel Peace Prize winner leaves office. I'm sure they feel safe he will want to turn it off at the first opportunity to protect his peace legacy. If that is the perception (not the same as reality) they may think it could be 100 yrs before another safe chance crops up.

I wonder if they missed their window of opportunity to grab Taiwan while the US was hip deep in Iraq and Afghanistan.  Now, they are making these plays that are getting their neighbors closer and updating their militaries.  And the US is starting to focus on the threat that they are presenting in the region.

China is looking at the long game. They're not ready to tangle with us. Yet.

I have this kicking around somewhere. I tried it out years ago, but it didn't play right on my system at the time.
