Meanwhile, back at the ranch...

Jasta 12 has been sustaining some serious casualty rates this month.  Despite  no large offensive being underway, the attrition has been quite brutal.  Replacements can't show up fast enough!  It also seems that the higher ranking greenhorns have been taking our fine new Albatros D.Vs to the grave with them.   >:(




I wish the Historical Aces on the duty rosters would show some kind of 'Kills' progression.  They just list N/A the whole time, but if you do the in-game historical aces search and read their bio, it lists their confirmed kills up to that date so it must be possible.  Maybe in some DLC or something..

I'd be astounded if zeppelins were anything but targets.  I don't see the fun in flying those big slow air boats.  However, knowing some of you guys, you'd want to take off in the Wright flyer, or the long slow descent of a diving bell, if they had it modelled in a game.  I just wonder if those of you who would want to sim flying a zeppelin over the north sea would still enjoy doing so after going through one long dull mission.  :P

You're asking this on a web site where a notable percent of members have boating sims, train sims, civil aviation sims, truck driving sims, and even farming sims...  :D

The Albatros D.V was seen as a minor upgrade from the D.III by most pilots, and many thought the D.III was superior. What a rude shock that must have been!

Does the D.V perform a lot better than the D.III in WOFF?

BTW, Nefaro, I didn't see your pilot on that list of Jasta 12. What names do you use? I tend to use names from movie characters, porn stars, scientists, etc. My first pilot(may he rest in pieces) was Hans Gruber, which was the name of the bad guy in the film "Die Hard".

Well, that was the idea. But the D.V suffered from structural failures, too! Albatros mostly fixed this with the introduction of the D.Va, which, while being heavier than the D.III, also used a stronger engine to compensate(180 hp vs. 170 hp).

The DVa seems to have bit more speed on it but it also tends to wing stall easier than the D.III.  So, yes, the D.III is superior in at least one way.  I suppose the heavier DV is a trade-off.  I have performed better in the D.III, in the sim.

You can see a notation on one of the last columns of the roster list with the label "(Player)".  As you can see, my pilot was named Hans Lurghoyff.  I'd be surprised if anyone recognized the name but it is a reference.
