The first few episodes are slow. It's definitely family oriented and formulaic. However, I find if I think of it in the context of a comic book, it's entertaining. You know, the comics tend to have two dimensional stereotype characters and fairly well telegraphed plotlines. In that light Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. is pretty good.

I agree, it's a great comic book on TV. Just don't think too much while watching.... ;)

I gave up after 3-4 episodes when it felt like they just grafted the major underlying themes from Alphas onto a Marvel franchise and sold it to a network during Avengers hysteria.

My biggest problem with so many of today's TV shows is that they feel like they have to go "big" too soon in their storylines, and once you get some huge plot point dropped on you in week 6, how do you sustain a show without constantly trying to top it.
Heroes had that problem. Scandal had that problem. Alphas had that problem. Season 2 of Revolution is going through it. The Hawaii 5-0 reboot has been trying to recover from two such self-inflicted problems. Dollhouse had that problem.
The only two series off the top of my head that haven't had that problem recently are Lost and the BSG remake.

The SHIELD show seems to be trying to be a family-friendly Alphas with some James Bond gadgetry mixed in, and Marvel's names slapped on the supers. The writing just hasn't been there to keep me interested.

One of the things I love about comics is the cross tie of different series. Any of the Avengers that had their own books, Cap, Thor, IM, etc., would occasionally have storylines or villains spill out of one book into another. I really think Disney and ABC have a goldmine on their hands tying their movies with the show. It still won't help some of the problems with Agents, but, it should keep the series going. That may turn out to be a good thing or a bad thing depending on how well they develop the show.

That would be great from a fan point of view, but the stars of the movies would never do TV unless the paychecks were large, which I doubt they are with a fledgling TV series. Unless it gets up to Seinfeld or Friends proportions in popularity they'll never have that kind of bank.

It's possible that certain movie contracts may have a required tv episode appearance or two written in for tie-in shows. Don't forget that Samuel L Jackson has had a cameo in 'Agents' already.

Didn't think of that. I keep forgetting that most media houses encompass both film and television studios (and probably boner pills too, who knows).

With Justified, Archer and The Following starting new seasons this month, AoS will likely fall to the wayside for me. I can only follow so many shows at once. I just started watching Chuck on Netflix and I'm already behind on the new season of Downton Abbey.

I'm 2/3 of the way through the second season. It's been much better than I anticipated. I'm not a huge Zachary Levi fan, but he's grown on me. Adam Baldwin is his usual level of awesome. And there's really nothing I can say about Yvonne Strahovski that would do her justice.

I started watching Chuck after you guys were talking about it here. I never watched it when it was on network TV and it kept popping up on my recommended list on Netflix, and now I've gotten through the first season and just started the second season, and I'm hooked on it now.

Zachary Levi is just about perfect for his role, as is Adam and Yvonne.

I've noticed that later in the first season and into the second season the writing got a lot looser and free with the humor, so there's several laugh-out-loud funny moments in it. It's just getting better and better now.

I'm almost done season 2 of Chuck. It seems to really hit it's stride in season 2. It's not much of a spy show, but it's fun and the cast is great. I enjoy lighter shows Chuck and Burn Notice as an alternative to things like Sons of Anarchy, Justified, etc.
