Games you're looking forward to this year

The Huns were all over the place. No one can say for sure, but many suggest they were originally a tribe, the Hsung-Nu, who were a real problem for the Chinese on the western border. Think this was in Chinese chronicles from about the 2nd century BC.
They were pushed back by a major effort and fled west.
Not sure when they worked their way to the Roman border.
Later, they were regularly hired by the Byzantines, being great all around light cavalry, renowned as good horse archers. A significant portion of Belisarius' armies were mercenary Huns. They were often susceptible to bribes, so were always a worry.

Why do you guys think Panzer Corps is generic? The game has really sucked me in. It's got a great one more turn vibe, some great art style, it creates some great tension, decent AI, and even the sound and music are great, IMHO. I don't play a lot of WWII themed games so maybe that's why I am enjoying it so much.

Gus, how similar or dissimilar is it compared to Panzer General? That was my first thought. I loved PG on my 3DO back in the day but didn't want to just re-play that game.

Not to step on Gus's toes -- but for my 2 cents -- PanzerCorps is essentially identical to Panzer General and PG2. I bought PanzerCorps out of a "Man, I *loved* Panzer General!" feeling, and was quickly disappointed to find out that PanzerCorps is really just PG2 with updated graphics. I can't say I spent a lot of time with PC, but my sense of "this doesn't add anything new" was strong enough for me never to feel the need to go back to it --

Panzer Corps is a fine introductory wargame. It's designed to do exactly what it's doing for you - suck you in, get used to the units and their basic functionality, and let you see some of the theaters of the war. "Generic" is probably too vague of a term. More like "light."

I didn't mean "generic" in terms of gameplay, but in terms of the units you use/face and the scenarios. You're playing supposedly historical battles against generic enemy units, using generic units of your own. I didn't mind that in any whatever General game, but it does get old from time to time. I enjoy campaigns with more of a story to tell more, like the Hungarian Mod for PzC or the Pacific Corps mod by DMP.

For Warhammer, some sort of story, no matter how cheesy, is important for me to enjoy the game. The rivalry between the various races and factions is such a big part of the theme that it's difficult to imagine playing against mostly generic enemy units.

Ok I understand what you' re saying Comrade, and I do agree with it. I put myself somewhere between beginner and intermediate when it comes to true groggy games, which is part of the whole reason I am here to begin with...perspective.

I also bought Panzer Corps because I loved the original Panzer General on the first PlayStation, and on that tip, it delivers. After a couple of weeks to maybe a month, I am ready to move on to Unity of Command.

Can anyone suggest other more intermediate wargames to move on to? Maybe I should start a new thread...I've been th looking through the Matrix catalogue and may get Battle Academy.

Space Sector listed more games that are coming out in 2014. It's going to be an expensive year...

Yeah, I saw that. I hadn't realized the new StarDrive game was going to be coming out this year! It's been added to my list now, though.

I looking forward to which ever of the multitude of space 4x games due out is actually better and more fun than MOO2. Right now my money is on Predestination, but that's only based on videos and interviews, not actual game time, so who knows.

I'm also looking forward to AoW3 and maybe Sovereignty: Crown of Kings.
