This is on sale right now at Steam. Anyone playing it? It's got some very good user reviews there.

Watched the trailer on Steam....looks to be a Diablo-like game...frantic action, hordes of attacking monsters, although some of the forum posters (on Steam) say it is comparable to Titan Quest.

I purchased this several months ago. It's a fast-paced rpg with tons of monster killing. The graphics, sound, and play are all good. However, I got sort of tired with the constant and redundant hacking and slashing. Another thing that, to me, makes it less appealing than Titan's Quest is the lack of spoken dialogue. I'm not much of a fan of dialogue only boxes without the voicing.

A much more refined and enjoyable rpg I've been playing is The Incredible Van Helsing complete series.

Just my feelings and opinions...nothing serious folks!

^You know I played about 10 hours of Van Helsing and thought the same thing of it that you mention of Grim Dawn above...decent but kinda repetitive after a while.

I thought Van Helsing seemed rather repetitive from the start.  I played about 30 minutes into it and haven't revisited since.  *shrug*

The overly complicated special ability bar-pumping thing was also annoying and needless.  I'm sure they were trying to do something innovative with the mechanics but it just doesn't seem interesting at all and only serves to be a pain in the ass.

I've bought into the Van Helsing 2 beta-buy-in program, but they seem to have bugs even with their online shop :P

Gus, you're probably correct...as I play Van Helsing for a longer period I'll bet it too will become repetitive. I haven't played a "great" rpg pc game for a long time...one that is innovative, has an intriguing and compelling story, with memorable and balanced combat, and nice (doesn't have to be perfect) graphics, voicing, ambience, and immersion. Maybe I ask too much.

It's seems as I get older I get bored faster with gaming. Also, I've taken up fishing and participating in local community activities. But life is good in that I have the privilege of choosing to do a lot of fun things.

FC....I like your last comments. I retired a few years ago and thought I was done with 'work-life' balance issues only to find it became one of 'pc game-life' balance. A balance of the two is healthy for the mind.

Only 18.5 years until I can start to think about retiring!

Maybe Grim Dawn will be fun and playable by then :)

Rayfer, thanks for the comments. You and I seem to be of the same mold. Good gaming to you always!

I am actually liking GD so far.
Just like Titan Quest, your character is classless. The starting options do not matter very much at all. This has a disadvantage in early game because you are not presented with the specialised skills yet, but in the longer run it gives you great Freedom about how you want to build your character.

GD is a traditional 'Hack and Slash' genre game, like Diablo. These days people refer to these games as Action RPGs, but those are a different breed traditionally. ARPgs is just a term that has become a general way to describe an RPG where stats in the traditional sense of DnD are not used, but a more action oriënted approach is used instead.

But the hack and slash genre is having a comeback lately. GD is one of the more traditional offerings, just like Path of Exile.
If you like ARPGs you definately do not have to like Hack N Slash type of games. They are a different sub genre of RPGs.

However, if pilots would need to do daily what they are capable of doing, nobody would dare to fly anymore."

Is the content still only half-finished in Grim Dawn?

I wouldn't mind buying it in early access but would prefer to wait until most of the campaign areas & such were in.  Don't wanna keep playing the first third or half of the game over and over when there will be a lot more later stuff added.

Yskonyn

AFAIK Only Act 1 and 2 are in the game at this time still. Where Act 2 starts to introduce player choices that have consequences in the world of GD.

FWIW players on Steam really have enjoyed the first two acts.
