every morning i see with great excitement, the CM Red Thunder thread is ruling at the top of the Grogheads activity list
and think:

...only to find out: its just another two pages added of wall-o-text withs lengthy often wellknown philosophical CM back and for arguments and chatter.

But progress is being made!  For a while no one was sure whether to bash the AI tiggers (bouncy things -- friends of Roo!)
or revert to being scandalized about other topics, but now, NOW WE KNOW...the AAR was not "really" an AAR.

It was something else.  Something else again.  Like (in fact) EVERYTHING THAT IS CALLED AN AAR.  I guess we need a new
acronym:  NRAARAAR (Not really AAR AAR).  Or just use AAR to stand for what is generally (if perhaps erroneiously) called an
AAR.

Much more of this and I'll have you walking the plank

That will definitely have a better chance of entering the collective consciousness than the NRAARAAR...

It wasn't an AAR. It was a play session reported on in progress. An AAR generally consists of a concise analysis after the fact. A good AAR, in the best tradition of the genre, would have two skilled players analyze their game in detail, perhaps with a neutral commentator, maybe even one of the designers/developers. The AAR would highlight game mechanics, flow of play, the abilities of both players, and hopefully have a dramatic finish. Good ones would be carefully edited, polished and presented for mass consumption.

I won't argue that what was presented wasn't appreciated by the audience, but it was not a classic AAR.

I agree with you very much in that respect. As I discovered to my chagrin, that kind of endeavour easily becomes akin to a part-time job. It's a shame that the game we started with Leto died as I got dragged by real-life... spending several hours taking screenshots, editing them and annotating them was a too big ask on my time.

I still think that kind of 'real AAR' is doable, but would require significant organisation and team work.

It's always been easier to destroy than create, unfortunately. Probably why trolling is more common than constructive discussions.

It's disappointing, too, that those who do find the time to present good information in a well-organized way - BilH's website on tactics comes to mind as just one example off the top of my head - are often rewarded by crickets chirping (I am guilty at this too) because few people take the time to comment at those sites, in favour of the more public venues of discussion. Which is a bit more irony, since most of those "public" venues are populated by anonymous registrants who show up to bark at each other.

Maybe it's time to abandon this thread and move to a thread with a more specific topic - at the very least in this way no "emotional distress" will be inflicted on subscribers  :)

On the other hand, BFC has gone dark since last week and Chris didn't play a CMRT scenario on his twitch.tv stream. The release may be quite close.

As a matter of cosmic history, in fact.

That means it's crunch time, it's really hard to get software to a release state, all kinds of things have a nasty habit of showing up at the last minute, not to mention opps, someone forget something ;D

I was informed at another website that this was a CM thread discussing Red Thunder.  It seems a bit off track, and I see Dorosh has slipped back into his snippy ways, but that is besides the point.  Good luck with your next 20,000 posts Mr. Dorosh.

The AAR between BilH and Elvis is wildly entertaining IMO.  Why some feel that it must be held up to some sort of standard is ludicrous.  It is like some wargamers must be unhappy little snots.

I liken the format of two unlikely opponents (one lauded to be 'the best', and the other to be an underdog), and the raw nature of the unfinished product, to be a new medium.  The interaction with posters suggesting what units should be bought and what to do, made for a somewhat new experience.  That is probably is what put off the old fuddy-duddy element in the hobby.

Elvis' play has entertaining qualities and sort of reminded me of some sort of reality show.  I often wondered when reading posts while in the elevator "Can he really be doing this?"  Can Bil really be chewing up this much time because of it?  Both sides handling of its armor was equally entertaining and it did not seem that there was any decisive action till the midpoint of the game.  I don't believe that Elvis was that mismatched and if Bil had less time, and maybe this should be a scenario design factor for Soviet attacks, Bil may have made even bigger flubs himself without checking out every possible place Elvis could be.

In any case, I don't really see the 'Grog' faction here.  Seems like another place for Dorosh to spread his brand of misery and reactionary viewpoint of the hobby.  And his paranoid obsession with other wargamers.

Good luck.  And good day.
You will notice I didn't respond to your post and have no interest in what you have to say. Especially on this subject.
