Yeah. Got it from Steam, it's right in my wheelhouse, couldn't resist. It's getting some solid reviews and has about an 82% on Metacritic. It will be my next game once I finish my current Rome 2 campaign and I would like to write a review on it if BB will have it. Warning: it will probably make me cry.

Watched the trailers and just don't get the appeal? What am I missing? It looks like a child's cartoon side-scroller. Is there more to it than meets the eye?

Well I'm a WWI nerd. Additionally a lot of the reviews say that the gameplay, while rather simple, touches on a pretty hard t to define 'humanity'...but not havng played it yet I can't explain it yet. Sorry I guess that is a little.esoteric and meaningly...

BB so I will take that as a yes. I am hoping to start it in a couple of weeks.

Just played it for a couple of hours and its a very touching, well produced 2d puzzle game centered around characters throughout the progress of WWI. You use your limited skills and other characters to unlock areas and get in to places to solve particular problems. But its all beautifully animated and detailed and it addresses issues of the war that other games do not. Its not a wargame. Its a platform puzzler. But it presents the actualities of the Great War along with the human emotional aspects as you play. I found it quite intoxicating. Less so than the Chlorine gas attacks depicted within :)

It does however have a fairly detailed encyclopedia of events with actual photographs illustrating the details. I'm not normally keen on 2d platformers even if they're soaked with "puzzles" and character co-operative mechanics, but the subject matter is so interesting it has me hooked. Well worth the effort if you want to experience a piece of gaming "art" centered around the human aspects of this particular conflict.

I use to come across many of these emotional types of story lines in Japanese games.
Quite refreshing to see something from Western developers as it definitely breaks the mold.


Also, I'm more interested in that Verdun FPS.  How is it?

^I have Verdun but right now there is no SP and not many people on for MP. So I'm waiting.

Valiant Hearts is definitely going to make me cry.
