Just took on a bunch of orcs all of which were a level above my guys.  I lured them into a choke point with two barrels of oil and then my ranger destroy the barrels with a fire arrow burning three of the orcs to a crisp.  I then fell back to minefiield I had discovered lured the remaining orcs into that and trigger it with my ranger killing another two orcs.  Then my group consisting of a ranger, battlemage, fighter and wizard went to town on the biggest of the orcs that had survived.  It it was a crazy fun battle and just another glimpse at how awesome this game is.

I'm trying to get into this game but I am getting slaughtered in early battles and it is killing my enthusiasm.  I'm working my way west from the starter town towards the lighthouse and even a group of 6-7 skeletons is eating my lunch.  Is there any easier area that I should be adventuring in?

Do quests in town until you are at least level three. Then head out the north west gate to leave town

Yeah stay in the town and try and get to level 3 upwards before venturing out. Maybe risk just around the wall but don't go much further than that.

If you get in over your head don't forget about the flee button on the right side of the screen.


Also, always always quick save!

Really stuck on the murder mission. I have spoken to everyone many times have only found one smelly item which was useless.

This is a really superb game. Properly challenging but also fair.

Like Tactical above I thought I had reached a dead end in the Town but started sneaking and breaking into locked buildings to reveal clues...There may well be other ways to get there but I am making progress again and the cheif suspect has (hopefully) now been identified !

Up to level 5/6 with my party , all of whom play very differently and I am getting very attached to them 

I am not an old school RPG fan having missed out of the golden era of BG, Planescape and Neverwinter but am a definite convert.

Recommended.

You definitely have to sneak around and get into people's stuff. 

The game doesn't really tell you that, but there it is.  ^-^

You can do more than wear them if you have the Pet Pals ability.  They're "smelly" for a reason.
