Really stuck on the murder mission. I have spoken to everyone many times have only found one smelly item which was useless.

Forget about Bioware's "dialogue-driven" paradigm of questing, that will take you nowhere. Think like a detective. You need to collect 'evidence' and confront the obvious suspect with it. That might mean doing confronting stuff. And take in mind that people will only get annoyed  if you steal their stuff in their faces :)

I won't tell you more than that, I don't want to steal the feeling of satisfaction when you figure it out. And don't despair: the little detective story in the town is just the EASIEST bit of it  :)

EDIT: Just a hint for the road: make sure you have someone capable of using a bow and some 'special effect' arrows (just collect as many Charm arrows as you can, don't sell them!). Besides that, if you combine their effects with what your magic users can do, they are a massive equalizer when you're outnumbered.

I haven't figured it out either....although I killed the main suspect anyway. I tried to go into the suspects bedroom and was told not to. I responded "I go where I want" to which a huge fight resulted with the suspect and their guards. So without a confession, I may have "broken" the quest. Of so, screw it. I will find a new quest or start over

My character has a high "Offence" rating.

There's a back door, Mike. Maybe the only complaint I have at the moment with Divinity is the camera - which is very constricted and sometimes one can miss out important details like that door. I can only wonder about that, maybe it's because of the shaders/rendering they're using (they restrict the camera to make sure the 'tricks' work and the scene looks good).
