And what's the point of reassuring the crew when you assemble at maybe a third of them and give them a speech with using the comm system so the rest can at least hear you?

To continue being fair to that particular scene: he wasn't just addressing them with a speech piped to the intercom. He assembled as many as he thought he could get into the helo bay where the doctor was working on the ultra-contagious world-ending mutating virus.

Okay, that makes it sound dumb again. But she was in her pressurized lab, and the captain was trying to make a point that he would be truthful and open from now on instead of hiding things away. Those members could go talk about what they saw and heard from the doctor instead of what they theorized/suspected was happening.

I appreciated the point and only wondered twice in that scene what happened to their helicopters, at least one of which should still have been in the helo hanger (since they used it to fly out to within 100 yards of a Russian heavy cruiser they had just skiff-bombed in order to pick up some crewmen they had sent on a not-suicide mission. That was the last time I remember seeing the helo, so until I learn otherwise I'm just going to pretend the Russians promptly BLEW IT THE HELL OUT OF THE AIR and under cover of the burning wreckage the helo crew and the skiff-boat slammers rowed a dingy twenty miles or so back to the destroyer that same night.)

Pressurized lab?!? That's the last thing you want to be next to when it's filled with world killing bugs!!!
Pressurized means it blows all the nasties out of the lab!

If correctly set up, it would be a low-pressure lab, designed to insure that any air leaks were going in, not out.

Blame me in this case; the show didn't call it that, and while I knew what it was going for (reverse pressure) I took a guess at how to describe it briefly. Sorry.

And then the next episode featured (one of?) the remaining giant helo(s) prominently.

I feel the plausibility here would increase if we ever saw establishing shots of them working the remaining (??) helo out of its aft cabin next to the aft cabin the biochemist is working in.

Well, it's a summer miniseries so there isn't anything to 'cancel' exactly.

Av gas is precious and rare now, so they don't even fly their drones a lot.

Still, I could see this series trying to use that as an explanation!
