Any of you play this?

I'd never noticed it before.  Looks like a mongo-sized adventure game with lots of "stuff".  I'm guessing Fantasy Flight did a reprint recently since there are plenty new ones to be had.  Seems to be pretty popular.

Grimnirsson

We own it and played it several times - it's a great game for sure, especially the combat is something I love. The more players the better...rules can be a bit confusing though.

I had it for awhile. It does some things very well, like characters adding new cards to their ability decks, and cards reflecting both abilities and hit points. So you need to rest and/or Heal from time to time to add those cards back to your deck. Movement system is neat. Lots of interesting choices for the Sauron player, too.

Two problems that I recall were :

-Finding locations is a bitch. There are some player aids which make tracking down specific locales much easier, and they're basically essential.
-The end game can be downright stupid. If neither side has achieved their victory condition by the game's end, it all boils down to one of the characters vs. the Ring Wraiths. So you spent hours playing the game, and then it concludes with that bit of anti-climactic nonsense. This was the killer for the game remaining in my collection.

I may be able to get by on the location issues since, despite being terrible at remembering names, I can remember names & locations on maps pretty well.  Including having a decent knowledge of Middle Earth locales.  I doubt opponents will have it so easy, except maybe one buddy who's an old Tolkien fan.

The end game final combat thing sounds a bit odd if it just comes down to a combat die roll.  I wonder if people have addressed it with rule variants.

Well, it's playing cards from your hand rather than dice (there are no dice), but same basic idea...3 hour game boils down to a nonsensical 5 minute combat. There are some player changes on BGG, but most of them involve printing and including new material into the game and the like.
