pretty sure they're based in Montreal. Small team (3-4 guys?), so I understand they have few resources at their disposal and sympathize. But they just have not been on the ball with this release. Hope their legal difficulties get resolved quickly and in their favor.

Well I bought the centennial edition when it came out so I didn't have to screw around with installing WWI and patches. Apparently, that was a mistake

Good news: installation now working properly. Bad news: future of this game is completely uncertain.

It's too bad, really. Some of the improvements DigitalFroggies added are really nice, especially the much-decreased load times. And in theory I love having access to WWI Gold on Steam. But I do kinda wish I had held off on purchasing...

GamersGate is still selling this and has it on sale for $10. Can someone who bought it off Steam report in as to the state of the game? Thanks in advance.

Seems you get a Steam key....but I thought Steam stopped selling the game for some reason. Searched for it on Steam a minute ago and couldn't find it listed at all. Has me worried about getting it from gamersgate.

The latest version of CE fixes almost all of the performance issues I had with Gold. The initial CE release was bugged but they released a couple of patches that resolved them - at least that's been my experience. The developers never updated the version number on the loading screen, which has created a lot of needless confusion, but I assume Gamersgate has the latest version. I have heard that CE won't run in XP, but it runs fine for me in Windows 7 and 8.

The bottom line is that CE is the final patched version of Gold without the performance baggage. For me anyway, CE runs far better than Gold ever did; I've played more CE in a few weeks than I ever played Gold in years. Plus, since CE and Gold share the same file structure, all the Gold mods work in CE. Finally, whatever the outcome of the current legal difficulties, CE won't get any less support from DF than Gold will get from AGEOD - AGEOD hasn't supported Gold in ages.

But will a gamersgate purchased Steam key work on Steam, who doesn't sell the game any more? At least I couldn't find it there today when I searched. I had read earlier threads that it was pulled from Steam for legal reasons.

A guy just posted on the Steam forum that he bought from GG tonight and received a Steam key that works fine. That's good news.

As for the "Is it worth $10" question: I'll readily admit to being a big fan of the game, but with that disclaimer, now that CE provides a version of Gold that actually works for me, I'm confident I'll play it at least as much as I'll ever play EAW, which I was happy to buy at four times the price. Both are equally good, but different, games.
