Wow, there's actually quite a bit of useful/cool info in those previews that I read.  Where to start?

Ships will look physically different depending on what components you give them (so you should be able differentiate between a gunship and an escort carrier); subsequently, civilian ships will look decidedly different from military vessels.  Similarly, a planet's appearance will change over time as you terraform it, becoming more "verdant" later on in the game.

In addition to constructing buildings right on a colony's surface, you can also construct stuff in orbit -- especially planetary defenses and shipbuilding facilities...and they will appear in any space combat around a planet.

Graphic-wise, you can apparently zoom in during battles to the point that you can watch your ships' point-defense guns recoil as they take out enemy missiles/torpedoes/etc.

Star systems will be connected via the equivalent of "star lanes", allowing players to establish strategic choke points throughout their empire.

When setting up a new game, you will choose an Ancestry and a Doctrine for your race.  Apparently, this will affect (to at least some degree) what kind of technologies you have access to.

Not much about multiplayer is known yet.  However, supposedly there will be a 2-player coop mode (besides the usual "kill everyone else" mode).  In addition, there's a "kill the Emperor" mode, where if your "Avatar" (who gives major bonuses to your empire) is killed, you lose the game.

That's all I can remember off the top of my head, but there's other good stuff in those previews as well.  So if any of what I just mentioned interests you, go check 'em out (if you haven't already)!

I love LOVE the 'Kill the Emperor' game mode.

I've been following this as well.  It really is an exciting time to be a wargamer/strategy gamer.  Space Sector is really becoming a great site also.

Any idea when will this be available digitally? (not just through Amazon)

Not soon, I'm afraid. I think the estimates were late summer/fall.

Yeah, Adam Solo has done a pretty good job with his site, and I give major props to his efforts thus far.

Two other decent sites dedicated to space games are Space Game Junkie and Space Sim Central (although SpaceSector remains my favorite, since it focuses a little more on strategy games than the other two).

Speaking of SpaceSector and Legends of Pegasus, it looks like Adam found a new batch of screenshots for the game.

Most of the shots appear to showcase the ship design, and orbital facilities as they appear in combat.

I'm particularly interested by the latter, and not just because it looks cool.  With shipyards and other orbital facilities now included as part of the battlefield, I'm hoping that raids will be a viable tactic:  Instead of gathering all the military assets necessary for a full-scale planetary invasion, you could instead choose to conduct a hit-and-run attack, where the main goal is to damage a colony's shipbuilding capability.  It could be one method for an empire on the defensive (or without a large army) to keep an enemy at bay and/or off balance while they work to regroup for a major offensive.

I believe Kalypso said they're probably looking at a summer release, so sometime in Q3 2012.  Of course, they also said they want to make sure the game didn't suffer the same fate as Sword of the Stars 2, so it's entirely possible we'll see that release window gets pushed back.

An update on this:

Adam Solo over at SpaceSector has reported the game's release date has been pushed back to July 31st.  Given that I was already under the impression LoP wasn't going to be out til this summer anyway, my disappointment is minimal.

A site called NeoGmr has post a fairly substantial (and substantive) interview with the devs.  Some good stuff there for anyone else following the game.

It's still on track for a summer release, by the way.  Sounds like they're pretty much entirely in the polishing and bug-fixing stage now.

E3 coverage is starting to come in:  Another (shorter) article, this one by Gaming Nexus.

Not a whole lot of new info in this one, although it does seem to have a little more emphasis on the single-player campaign.  While 4x titles have historically not done very well with these, I still find myself increasingly intrigued despite that fact.

Update:  Looks like we have a release date!  Apparently, the game is coming out in most of Europe August 10, and here in the States on August 14.  Can't wait!

I was looking forward to this but, being published by Kalypso, I will probably boycott it. :(

Just a heads up that it is available for pre-order on Steam (available Aug 10th?)...15% off knocks it down to ~$34. (The Steam Special Edition includes the Steam exclusive Mini-DLC Conqueror. All player ships will have a martial, camouflage look available and playable for all human and alien ships.)

I like the looks of LoP, but the real-time battles may hold me back.  Anyone know if there will be a demo?

For what it's worth, the game will require Steam.  While those familiar with my rants views will know I'm obviously not overjoyed by that fact, it at least will likely mean you don't have to worry about any issues with creating a "Kalypso account".

So long as the battles last more than five seconds, don't feel like a click-fest, and are actually somewhat tactical in nature (I'm looking at *you* Armada 2526!), I'll be quite content.  From what Kalypso has said of the battles so far, I think I'll likely enjoy them.

Unfortunately, it sounds like there won't be a demo.  :(

I don't see how creating some forum account with Kalypso even approaches the level of signing up for Steam and being forced to load their adware client to run their games.

I'd much rather sign up a forum & support account, and not be forced into logging in (you don't have to) or running some 3rd party software (there is none) in order to play the game in question.   The Kalypso thing is trivial compared to other requirements.

Now.. if you are talking limited online installations, ad clients, or most other hair-brained DRM then I can see why someone would be averse.   Does this have limited installations?
