If there is small-scale conflict in Ukraine, it may take a while to shift the world's attention. If it's just a few squads exchanging fire, while it demonstrates escalation, it's not the same thing as five divisions rolling in there.

This is probably Putin putting a toe in the water. If it's really the start of a full-scale invasion, we'll be seeing headlines soon enough.

Ukrainian troops on Friday destroyed part of what Kiev says was a Russian armored convoy that crossed into Ukraine around the same time as a truck convoy of humanitarian aid reached the border, according to Ukrainian president Petro Poroshenko's

Poroshenko informed British Prime Minister David Cameronin a telephone call that a "significant" part of the Russian armored column had been destroyed, according to the Ukrainian leader's website.

"Much of this equipment was destroyed by the Ukrainian artillery at night," the website says, according to Ukrinform new agency.

Andriy Lysenko, spokesman for Ukraine's National Security Defense Council, also reported that parts of the armored were "destroyed."

USA Today article (above) said it was a relief convoy.

Article out of UK says it was an "armored column".

Clearly facts are still be sorted out. Both articles seem to claim the column took serious damage.

Ukrainian artillery destroyed a "significant" part of a Russian armoured column that crossed into Ukraine during the night, President Petro Poroshenko told British Prime Minister David Cameron on Friday, according to the presidential website.

"The president informed that the given information was trustworthy and confirmed because the majority of the machines had been eliminated by Ukrainian artillery at night," the statement said.

Poroshenko did not include any proof for his statement.

'David Cameronin?' I noticed they fixed it on the site. Shows you how much of a hurry the news entry monkeys are.

Hmm...it's interesting to note that the Russians have interspersed armored combat vehicles and troops with "aid vehicles." Looks like Putin is taking plays from the Hamas book of evil - if those invading APCs are destroyed and one or two "aid trucks" get it collaterally, well gee whiz, it's obviously the Ukrainian's faults for firing on "helpless aid workers."

Nyet to look at the APCs, Comrades...is no to see here!

Keep an eye on the news this weekend. We'll figure it out.

Regardless, the move is now in Putin's hands. Will he double down and push more convoys? Counter attack? Or withdraw?

I think he will likely go for it all now.  Especially with our CinC trying so hard not to be involved.

Yeah, I've had a bad feeling about this. Russia is going to go for it I think. Because who's going to stop him? Western leaders will wring their hands and make statements condemning Putin and Russia...but that's it. That's not going to stop Russian tanks or APCs, obviously.
