Oh the Cold War, how I didn't miss you.

Time to dust off my old copy of Bravo Romeo Delta and see if it'll run on dosbox.

They will only get more bold as everyone in the EU starts sucking their fuel. I guess they will just bury their head in sand on that point.

Ukraine isn't likely to get NATO membership any time soon. The point of NATO is to have a strong united deterrence against aggression. Adding a member while it is in the midst of a civil war with active Russian participation would introduce a chink in the armor, so to speak. The threat of NATO involvement in aiding the Kiev gov't may be useful in countering Russian ambitions but actually adding Ukraine to the rolls of NATO members would automatically invoke Article 5.

And, yes, that would be War.

Yes I agree - I couldn't rationally see Ukraine getting NATO membership anytime soon - certainly not in the middle of an undeclared war with Russia. Certainly article 5 would mean war otherwise the whole organisation is pointless.

What I was more interested in was NATO's response to the Ukrainian statement about joining. It seemed very welcoming - as though it may be expedited in some way - given the flak Bush took in 2008 for suggesting they could join I wonder at the NATO statement as its hardly built to bring Putin back into line - more to inflame the situation. As far as Putin is concerned the west broke an agreement not to extend NATO into the former soviet republics and this is how he sees the world and is largely driving his actions now.

You may talk the talk and appear to be quite easy going to foster popularity, but to the MAN I say F*CK YOU." And Steve G is F******g rude ? Just another day on the BF forum ... one demented idiots reaction to BF disagreeing about the thickness of the armour on a Tiger II turret mantlet.

I interpreted that as them being particularly sobered by the situation. I mean, they aren't drinking now on Monday!

I think it was Reuters or Politico that reported today that internal Russian memos have started calling the area of conflict New Russia, a phrase from czarist times.

It's all a video game says the Russians.

"The satellite photos NATO released showing "Russian combat troops inside Ukraine" prove nothing, Russia's foreign minister said Friday. In fact, he thinks they may be from a video game."

The wargamer in me really wats to see a US armored brigade with proper support mix it up with the Ruskis.

I'd like to see

1.  B2's take on Soviet Russian air defense.

2.  A10's versus Russian armor.

3.  Marines landing in Vladivostok

4.  Carrier Battle Groups operating in the Black Sea and the Barents Sea.

Somebody go get Rumsfeld. We may need to fight fire with fire here.
