@ BC-
I knew there was a non-Gus post I wanted to reply to in this thread!

RE: Oblivion.  It's a good game but generally considered the weakest of the three.  If money's no object then get it, but it goes on sale fairly regularly so waiting for a sale might be worth it.

If you aren't feeling drawn into Skyrim I don't know that Oblivion is going to work either.  I find Skyrim far more immersive than Oblivion (or Morrowind).  Oblivion is nice because it has a more medieval feel to it.  But the story isn't as interesting as Morrowind or Skyrim (IMO) and it feels dated compared to Skyrim.

As I've been playing more Morrowind I'm beginning to see the appeal and why many consider it the best of the ES series.  It took a while but I'm getting drawn into the story and it is much harder in general than both Skyrim and Oblivion.  I'm running the complete overhaul mod which makes it much better looking than vanilla.  It's worth sticking with if you can hack it...the story gets interesting.

Anyway, I give Oblivion an endorsement, but not an overwhelming one if you don't like Skyrim.

Huw the Poo

I will continue to evaluate Strife.  And since I've just bought the Humble Bundle, I will also be playing Gunpoint and Prison Architect.  It's going to be a good weekend!

Dunno, I haven't tried it yet.  I wasn't planning to buy it until it's released, but since it was in a bundle along with Gunpoint I thought I may as well.  It is by one of my favourite developers after all, so it was...

Not going to have a whole lot of time for gaming this weekend -- mostly just on Sunday, if that.

Am planning to fire up Rome II: Emperor's Edition, and the Sovereignty beta...if I can get the damn thing to run (so far, no luck).  >:(

Sonofabitch, brant.  That sucks balls, man.  :(  Here's hoping -- hard -- that it goes away soon.

Thanks for all the feedback on Oblivion, guys.

Toonces: re Skyrim...it DID draw me in. It was Morrowind that did not, so I skipped Oblivion when it came out. Gave Skyrim a try and it was so good I've come back to it again and again over the last few years.

I don't know what it was about Morrowind; it just didn't draw me in and didn't feel immersive at all. And this is back when it came out - I had it for my old Xbox (the black one) at the time. I've heard almost universally, though, that it does take quite a while to get into it. Maybe I just never gave it enough of a chance, or just couldn't figure out what I wanted to play.

Today I took a look at a couple of "Let's Play" videos for Oblivion. The main imperial city, the one that's divided into sectors like slices of a pizza, looked VERY familiar to me. I had a moment when I realized I probably did indeed play Oblivion many many moons ago, because I remember spending a lot of time running around that city.

In any case, thanks again for the feedback. I think you're right, Toonces, regarding sale-time. I think I'll wait for it to go on sale before I drop coin on it. I have more than enough right now anyway to keep me entertained.

Apocalypse 31

I've been having a TON of fun with Battle Academy 2 .

Looking for some more COOP.

I'll also continue my Barbarossa campaign.

Edit - there's also a guy on the Slitherine forums who's found a way to add the BA1 content to BA2, so you can play skirmishes using US and British forces.

Sorry to hear that. I hope it passes soon.

Brant hope that migraine goes away now.

I'll be putting some time in with Destiny, To End All Wars, experiment with Dominions 4 a little, and play a little bit of my mod for Advanced Tactics Gold.

Well what I did with Morrowind is I decided that once and for all I was going to give it an honest try.  Too many people have raved about it, and I didn't want to die without seeing what all the fuss is about.

I think what clicked for me was 1) I went online and read some quest guides to figure out when I was doing main quests, and when I was doing side quests, 2) If I got stuck on a quest I looked up the solutions online, 3) I added the Morrowind Complete Overhaul which greatly improves the graphics, and 4) I just stuck with it long enough to start getting a bit stronger in game (like Level 4 or so), and 5) I stopped taking for granted that things would be spoon-fed to me like Skyrim and I started playing smarter.

Morrowind rewards smart play.  And once you get a few quests into the main quest it starts to get interesting.  I think in previous plays I've just never stuck with it long enough to get what the story was about.

I'm trying to appreciate it for what it is, and not what I want it to be.  I still like Skyrim much more for the immersion factor, but Morrowind is a good game as well.  I think it took me about 4 tries to finally "get it."

I probably need to try out PE's mods and give Oblivion a fair shot one of these days.  I finished the Knights of the Nine questline, but haven't made much progress in the main story.  My son finished it in about two weeks, so it can't be that hard!

Pretty damn good gaming night for me!

Started with some Mount and Blade Warband with the cRPG mod online.  After a few fights I migrated over to Rising Storm MP for a few rounds.

Had dinner, then finished up a quest in Morrowind.  Finally, I started up a campaign in Shogun 2 Rise of the Samurai.  I was about to start Rome 2, but I still haven't even touched Shogun 2 and I'm sort of in an oriental mood.  Man alive Shogun 2 is HARD!  LOL.  It seems Total War has grown up a bit since M2TW.   >:D
