Running through some Descent 2nd Edition campaign play.

It looks like it would be a lot of fun with 3 or 4 players plus the 'Overlord'.  Dunno why I didn't pick this up earlier.  Lots of painting left to do, especially since I have some expansions now.

Not sure what will be up next.  Heroes Wanted, Earth Reborn or Galaxy Defenders perhaps.   I also still want to get MMP's A Most Dangerous Time to the table but that's a wargame that says it can take 20 hours to play.  So I gotta be sure I'm in the mood.  Plus the manual has been slow going.  It reads like a translation (probably from the Japanese version) so the wording kinda makes me lose focus sometimes.

The skirmish style rules are fairly easy but have enough depth to keep it fun, with the skills and equipment you can upgrade as your campaign progresses.    The way each scenario is split into two parts makes them play out fairly quickly too so it doesn't take long to find a good stopping point.

I should try to find a local game group that does it.  Haven't solo'd the cooperative expansion yet.

What do you mean by cooperative expansion? I just looked on FFG's website and don't see anything that stands out. Isn't it ALL cooperative? The adventurer players are all a team against the Overlord player.

It's a small expansion with some programmed AI cards, a little randomization of tile placement as the group explores, and traditional crawler looting.  Seems like an initial experiment to see how popular it would be.

The original vanilla game isn't fully Co-operative.  One player has to play the Overlord and run the monsters.  Not in a DM kind of way, but competitively since this is pretty much a minis skirmish game.  This little expansion gives a small and somewhat randomized co-op scenario where the bad guys are ran by the rules (as with most fully co-op games).  There are co-op/solo variants available on BGG but I've not tried them yet (they require you to print cards).

These have the added bonus of being solitaire capable without having to play both sides.  I get far more value out of solitaire-capable games like this since I can play them any time without having to schedule it around others.  8)

A playthrough series of the expansion:

I suppose that falls into the "Adventure Gaming" category.  Didn't wanna post it in the Wargame forum section.

It was out of print for a time, but another print run came through recently.  From the first couple turns, I can already tell it's high praise as the best with this theme is well deserved.  It looks pretty 'busy' at first glance, but the rules aren't terribly heavy.
