How's the historical aspect?  It's supposed to take place in April, '45 right?  It is supposed to be after the Yanks were told to stop at the Elbe?  Hope it's not another U-571 take on things.

The historical aspect was disappointing too. The tanks line-up nice and close together for great screen shots, they fire on the move and almost always hit the target first shot, Pitt's tank gets hit at least 3 times by AT guns and they all richocet and at one point he orders his crew to dismount and fight the Germans on foot alongside other infantrymen. Pitt fights most of the movie with his head out of the tank just like the other American tankers do so you can get close shots of their war-faces. I didn't dis-like the film, it's a good war movie. Just don't take it too seriously. And Star, all the great movies have been about something. There's no tale here. Not even a reason why these guys hate the Germans, and each other, so much. Beyond having a shitty day.

I saw this movie today.....no idea whether historical, believable, or tells a story...but all in all was a good WWII movie that kept me interested throughout and made the 2+ hrs fly by.  Like most movies like this, was kind of predictable and you knew generally how the ending would go.  I won't provide any spoilers and such, but certainly was worth my time and money.  Now I just need a good WWII tank sim game so I can relive it myself:)

FWIW, tank commanders riding into battle with their heads out of the turret might seem a stupid thing to do but it wasn't that uncommon in tanks with very poor buttoned-up visibility. During the time of the Six Day War Israeli tankers pretty much made it unofficial but standard MO until someone got around to counting up all the tank commanders with head wounds after the fighting died down. During WW2 the Germans developed a special commander's cupola that had vision blocks placed around it's circumference to give their buttoned up crews a little more SA. IIRC, the British also retrofitted some of their lend-lease Sherms with a similar setup.

That is one thing I appreciated in this movie was seeing things from inside the tank.   No idea how they ever saw their targets with all the potential blind spots.  Couldn't imagine being inside one of them in hostile territory.

I think the ridiculously unusual stories in some war movies *cough* Saving Private Ryan *cough* detract from the soldiers' perspectives.

I would recommend War Thunder instead, as it's a bit less Arcade-ish (No "Hit Points" and other nonsense).

I wanted to know more about these guys. They spent the whole war together, they must have some great stories to tell. But we don't even get find out where these guys are from-- other than Koonass-- I'm thinking Louisianna You know what the LEAST funny April Fool's Day joke was in 1945? "The Russian Army's here. Made you look!"

Yeah, that expanded story would have been a good "Band of Brothers" type tale.
