But its not the UI I am talking about.  Its the general lack of knowledge of naval tactics and even terminology.  The game is built for people with some basic understanding of things as simple as sonabouys and SOSUS.  Or at least the ability to use google/wiki to look them up in context.

UIs are always valid/invelid complaints.  It just depends on where the devs put their time and money.

Looks like they managed to get all the user reviews pulled off of Metacritic as it's still early access.

Also, there's a new update today:

Quote1. Offline game mode was added
2. New mission type - "Attack Planes Intercept" - was added in Campaign
3. New mission type - "Transport Planes Intercept" - was added in Campaign in 3rd, 4th and 5th stages for Soviet side
4. New mission type - "Attack Planes Cover" - was added in Campaign
5. HUD waypoint icons were changed a bit in Campaign
6. Artillery positions in Campaign now have additional decorations like ammo boxes, cammo nets and so on
7. Invulnerable Heinkels bug in QM Duel was fixed
8. Bridges, buildingsa, facilities now are counting in Flight Statistics (comment for mission builders - they should have non-neutral country assigned to be listed in stat)
10. Static planes and trucks now are counting in Flight Statistics (comment for mission builders - they should have non-neutral country assigned to be listed in stat)
11. Player statistics now is storing during Multiplayer Mission untill rotation even if he have exited server and back again
12. Player Campaign Statistics counting was fixed in Pilot Profile page (previous statistics was dropped to have correct future counting)
13. Ammunition indication on HUD was fixed in case of switch to turret and back

I wonder what secret number 9 is?

That's a fair bit of impassioned user feedback to just flush down the memory-hole!  Granted, all the "10/10" and "0/10" rankings may have been childish, but there was at least some well-reasoned reviews posted.  And which raises the question:

Why didn't 777/1C just try to get Metacritic to pull the reviews in the first place, instead of creating this sad saga to begin with, imploring fans to go on the site and boost the game's ratings -- ?!?   :idiot2:

It is possible that 777 had nothing to do with it and Metacritic pulled it themselves because of 777's post.

That could set a bad precedent if all publishers have to do to get rid of Metacritic ratings is make a "To Arms!" post.

What a mess.  I hope they pull it together and put that energy towards improving the experience instead of issuing Punishment Patches and Calls to Reviewer War.  I do want it to be good, in the end.

Jason was uber sensitive over Rise of Flight..which is off putting I agree.

Wow...so glad I stood strong and did not purchase.  Seems like developers nowadays are reacting over the top to any critique their games receive....big turn off for me even if a decent game.  The way they react bring a bigger spotlight than the negative feedback in the first place.

Metacritic is still on lockdown though.  I'm surprised they released it as it has got some bugs still.  Friendly AI ground attack planes won't attack ground targets and online stats don't update.  Seeing as how they want to appeal to the grind for achievements crowd, you'd think they would want to get the stats thing ironed out.

Hey flight simmers know value when they see one.  I can plop $70 just on an add-on plane in FSX or X-Plane.

JudgeDredd

Well - as a flight simmer I concur.

My "lols" were me lolling at the price for me. £40 for that game isn't going to happen. I don't like their unlocking idea. I don't like the sound of the career and I don't like the battlefield.

So...£40

Cat's out of the bag.  As many suspected, the devs announced a "starter" version of the game in which the player will get only two planes (The Bf-109 F-4, and the LaGG-3 ser 29) and will have to grind for the rest.  Currently it's slated for the Russian market only with a price of 499 rubles  (~$13).  Hell of a slap in the face to those of us who coughed up $100 for the game yet still have to do the same grind in order to earn the plane mods and skins.
