Hello,

Since previous Supreme Ruler titles generated some discussion here, I thought I should swing by and share our press release;

QuoteAncaster, Canada - BattleGoat Studios is thrilled to announce the release of their latest Real Time Geopolitical Strategy / Wargame, Supreme Ruler Ultimate.

Lead Designer and Co-Founder David Thompson commented, "This title represents fourteen years of what has been a labor of love.  Supreme Ruler Ultimate is the culmination of all the design revisions and content we've created since forming the studio in 2000 and there should be something for everyone, whether they want to re-play WWII or take over the world from a near future Scotland or an independent Texas!"

BattleGoat's Lead Programmer and Co-Founder George Geczy added, " Supreme Ruler Ultimate brings together our vision for a truly epic strategy game that encompasses some of the most turbulent times of human history - World War II, the Cold War, and the challenges we face in the near future.  We're proud to have made one of the most detailed and comprehensive series of strategy games ever created."  Previous BattleGoat titles in the Supreme Ruler series are Supreme Ruler 2010, Supreme Ruler 2020. Supreme Ruler Cold War, and Supreme Ruler 1936.

Thompson went on to answer questions about the future of the series. "Right now we are quite happy with what the Supreme Ruler series has achieved.  Ultimate gets us to what we originally envisioned and we will continue to supply additional content for our players and support to our modding community.  While we do not currently have plans for another Supreme Ruler stand-alone title, we will still update and enhance the game based on community feedback.  Everyone at BattleGoat feels indebted to our players and we continue to appreciate the support they provide us!"

Supreme Ruler Ultimate is available now for PC and Mac through Steam and other vendors.

I'm only just scratching the surface of this one, but so far, I'm getting a better vibe than I did with the other titles in the series. I always loved what the SR series tried to accomplish, but I was always held back by one thing or another.

I'm eager to dig in deeper and report back my findings!

Sorry, no.  LAN though and MP through Hamachi/GameRanger.  We've done some nice 4-6 player LAN games in studio.

Wow.  WW2, Cold War, Modern.  Maybe it's time to get back into the game and really learn it.

It's like having a Paradox game that actually runs from CK2 through HOI4 into the Cold War!

Except different. But similar!  8)

@Battlegoat :)

Apart from the "combined" experience of playing all the previous time periods in one game, what essentially are the "new" features?

I already have Supreme Ruler 2010, Supreme Ruler 2020, Supreme Ruler Cold War, and Supreme Ruler 1936, so what should I be getting really excited about? Have amphibious operations been improved, strategic/operational air war plans for the AI, naval war that takes into account the merchant marine/trade routes, and the ability for navies/subs to interfere with that? Will the AI be following strategies beyond the initial rush tactics, so often experienced. Don't get me wrong, I love SR, but it does fall down on these points.

What else will you have for your loyal fanbase, since I'm supposing - and I could be wrong - that this is essentially a merging of the unit/technology/designs databases, and a reset of the timescales, but essentially the same map/game etc? Will we loyal customers see a good discount?

Hi Boggit,

You are correct that this assembles all the products into one.  AI improvements have been done and will continue.  As an owner of SR1936, you're going to get most of the engine and feature improvements anyway, so that's not the incentive to purchase.  For '36 users, this is much more of an expansion pack.  It takes the older content and gives you access to the new features for that content.  Things like weather, the expanded events system, dead nations respawning, unit trading and the rebalanced support/condemn system were simply tools we didn't have when building the content for SR2020 or SR Cold War.

It should be noted that SR1936 users have been offered a $10 discount to reflect the overlap in content.  I judge that the additional content at the reduced price is well worth it.  Note that offer is nearly over though, I think it ends on Friday.

If you want to know more about the new features in the engine, check out the Feature Highlights section of the manual linked on the Steam store page.  I added that in anticipation of this sort of question :)

Damn, I've missed the discount!! :-[ :( You'll have to respawn it! ;) It sounds fun, well they all are. O0

I appreciate the reply.:) I'm mostly interested in the AI improvements and changes. Do you have a list of specifics? I'm hoping that submarine/raider warfare re trade routes has become closer to reality.

I really don't have a list.  As I'm not the programmer, it's not something I stay on top of.  One of the big changes related to the battle of the Atlantic was outlined here on our forum;

Happy for the opportunity to share about our game!  Anything to spread the word :)

@Chris (Battlegoat)

Oh well done. That is a really cool feature that has been begging for implementation in the older titles. Any chance you'll release an update for them to include that? :)

BTW, if I get the Ultimate version does that then make my older titles redundant? In which case I should uninstall them to recover drive space and just play the ultimate version? Is that a fair assumption?

That feature has already been pushed back to SR1936 but development on the other titles has ended, the most they would get now is content.

Ultimate makes the previous versions mostly redundant but there are some scenarios we have not been able to update.
