Sid Meyer's Beyond Earth...is no-one playing?

Well I think that can be said for most all games in terms of replayability if we are all objectively honest.  I'm hard pressed to think of a game that offers factors beyond random geography, resource distribution, or faction (yours and others) starting location.  I'm not disagreeing with your assertion that more features to randomize the alien world would increase variety in exploration and gameplay.

Right now we have a very good base game and don't know what DLC or expansion goodies they are developing for Beyond Earth if any.

I've been playing since Civ I. If I had put allllll the hours I've spent on Civ into getting rich, well.....I'd probably still be poor and less entertained   :2funny:

Same goes for me.  Been playing Civ since the first one and for me the first three were the only ones that really captured my attention.  Then came SMAC(X) and that set the bar.  I know I shouldn't compare past glories to this game but perhaps I should judge after playing the demo per 'geek's suggestion.   ;)

Over 4 hours of just one more turn...ok maybe just one more...

The "just one more turn" feeling is so great that I finished a whole campaign in a day. Opponent achieved victory.  That's 500 turns in 10 hours.

Holy cow!  That is dedication.

Being the Civilization fan that I am, I pre-ordered Sid Meyer's Beyond Earth.

Aliens are harmless if you don't disturb their nests (at least the early ones are).  You can start pushing back miasma almost immediately.  One of the tech tree branches available from the first turn (Ecology, I think) allows you to build things like sonic fences and satellites that eliminate it.

I'm more concerned about the fact that I had 3 CTD's in my first 2 hours of play :(

For the most part you are correct about aliens being harmless. However, don't be surprised when one of your units that was left in close proximity to an alien life-form is blundered into and attacked by it.

So far I have not had any crashes to desktop. But that may be because in the ~2 hours I've played I have started four or five games. Patience is no longer one of my virtues.  ;)

Is this Alpha Centauri 2.0?

No, but it's probably the closest to it that we will ever see. I get the same feeling when I play Sid Meyer's Beyond Earth that I did when I played Sid Meier's Alpha Centauri, so the resemblance is there.
Regardless of how good a PC game may be it will always have its detractors and no matter how bad a PC game may be it will always have its fans.

I've found if you listen to some old Art Bell Coast to Coast AM with a UFO/Alien topic it really enhances the gameplay. :D

I'm finding keeping my civ overall health in the green is impossible in my current game.  I know my expansion has outpaced my capability to improve health through city structures.  Although to be fair to myself I'm really just hitting buttons when it comes to research and city improvements, because of the newness of the game.

I just played the 100 turn demo and was thoroughly impressed with it.  O0

I would NOT have figured Bison to be a listener to Art Bell.

Maybe there are Shadow People in the game...or Bigfoot!!!

So...what's the deal with Wonders?

I played through about 200 turns and not once did it give me the option to build one. Meanwhile the other AI players were building them left and right. I thought that was odd.

Just had a faction declare war on me, and he started hitting me with airstrikes. Another WTF moment, because that's not something I've been given an option to build, either.

I guess I should read the manual...but if anyone's had experience with either of these points let me know.

I'd like to see some Greys added to the game.

Happened to me as well. Got it in the green after researching end node techs but I've been behind in other victory conditions already.
