I hope it works.  Shitty Russian generals, when combined with mountainous terrain in Turkey and a corrupt bureaucracy at home, make it very hard to sustain an offensive.  I'm besieging Varna and sinking Turkish merchantmen in the Black Sea but that's about it.  I don't have enough strength to make a push in the East from Georgia.  The Turks and I just sit in our forts on the border and glare at one another as the enlisted men die from dysentery and I don't have the funds to replace them thank to the corrupt bean counters.

ive started taking a 20 unit hit every turn on cereals due to corruption - is there any way to combat this?

Silent Disapproval Robot

Dump money into research that'll let you change government types or introduce reforms.  That's about it apart from random events, I think.

Well, it's taken way too much money and casualties but I think I've finally got the Khivan army at the point where I'll be able to engage them decisively.  I've spent months trying to force a mass engagement but the constant marching and counter-marching through the steppes played havoc on the cohesion of my various corps.  I was never able to get them to hit in a co-ordinated manner so the Khivan forces would either defeat my troops piecemeal or slip away from superior forces.  Now that the snows have fallen, they have lost a lot of their mobility and I was finally able to pin them down by sacrificing the forces holed up in my depot.  Even though they took very heavy casualties, they held the Khivans in place long enough for my remaining army to get in to position.  Hopefully the buggers won't be able to slip by us again.  Fighting these colonial wars is very tough!

Battle report from the defeat of the army in the depot.

Army locations after the battle.  (The numbers at the bottom of each tile indicate relative combat strengths of each stack.  The Khivans were at 1,100 before the battle.)

I've been harassing the Khivan capital with cavalry units in an attempt to intercept any supplies.  Looks like they Khivans have managed to raise some troops within the city.  I hope to defeat their main army next turn and then besiege their city.

The war with Turkey is slowly plodding along.  My army in Varna managed to breach the city's defensive works in 3 places and then assault the town itself.  The town is still in Turkish hands but we inflicted heavy casualties on the Turks and managed to take 3,200 of them prisoner.  I suspect the town will fall to us next turn.

Ok, had my first Crisis. It was with the UK over some region in Western Africa that I didn't even know existed. By the looks of this, I failed miserably, probably due to the fact that I had no idea what I was doing.

The Ottomans were causing trouble in the Western Europe Maritime Trade box.. I figure it's time to move some warships in there to show them whose boss and protect my interests.

I decided to build a Marine and Regular Infantry Division in Brest area, so that I could press my attack to the Ottomans.

Decided to move some Generals around in North Africa to be prepared to command these new Division. Next turn the Ottomans were attacking my colonies in North Africa, so I will not have far to travel to join the battle.

Created a new munitions factory in the Paris area, since I figure I'll be need it soon.

So you're at war with the UK now?  Damn!

Varna fell this turn and I managed to snaffle some supplies.  The dirty Khivan army slipped past my armies and is now holed up in the depot and garrison buildings and I have to lay siege.

Meanwhile in Sardinia piedmonte the price of wine went up

Silent Disapproval Robot

You could also declare war on the Turks.   ^-^ Just sayin'.

undercovergeek

do you urgently need the assistance of my spotting balloon and cavalry scouts?

JasonPratt

They might need the assistance of your wine!

Or the French might. Russians will drink anything, even especially rotten potatoes.
