I don't think these are Islamist radicals.  They've got Atatürk pictures.  Extreme Turkish nationalism can be a really weird thing and ugly. It can be very xenophobic.  I don't know much of this group or how many there are,  though but think it stinks as bad as the far right in Greece, which also has a xenophobic agenda.

The most recent was the early 1950s when the last Greeks and Armenians and Jews were forced out of istanbul in 1955 etc. One of my uncle a family is from there, and left after that last mess. Although the Greeks weren't 100℅ kind either in the 1919-1922 campaign.  These people did not get along and its still tense between govts   I was there in instanbul in  2008 visiting didn't have problems, but like all societies there's Extremists.

That lot are an ignorant bunch of bastards. The US guys are doing nothing to provoke, and it's not as though Turkey is exactly a moral role model for other nations. Heck they're still in denial over the Armenian genocide, and still in illegal occupation of Northern Cyprus 40 years later. To be fair, that describes most places on the planet at one time or another.

That said, we're trying to rise above that in these modern times. Success has been somewhat limited.

No question that tribes come and occupy and take over land that was not historically theirs to begin with.  This has been happening since day one of human history. 

The difference is that some tribes excel at destroying and telling lies about it and contribute nothing positive to human kind while others although initially butcher the inhabitants at least contribute to human kind with the arts and sciences.  Several centuries may pass but civilized cultures try to right the wrongs they've committed.
