My second game, I facing a severe shortage of Metal.. can only build archers  :( ...

Is there a way to find out what other factions have? Can you 'trader' for resouces (I haven't done much in diplomacy at all yet.. lol.. Just declare war!

You can trade for resources and tech points. The better the other faction likes you, the better your trade prices will go. Besides your standing with your trading partner, they may also place more value on one resource, say horses, than another. Usually what I do is click on whatever they have that I want (usually tech points), see what value they place on what I want, then give them the equivalent in gold, tech points, resources, whatever I can spare that covers the price. Also, if you have enough gold, you can flat buy their tech points for cash, which is a useful way to spend excess gilder   8)

I played a lil at lunch, but when I went into the trade talk, I did not see Metal as an option.. Gilder and techpoints.. but not really resources.. Do I have to do something to expand to resources? Wondering if I'm on a map where Metal mines are non existent!

When you hit "propose trade", on the far right you should see, in order(top to bottom): Gildar, Crystal, Metal, Horses, Wargs, the three various techs, then diplomatic options. Except for diplomacy, you will only see items your potential trading partner has. So if they have no horses, horses won't be on the list. If you're not finding anyone with metal....that's weird. Unless you are early in game and haven't found many other players, of course.

Also, it's strange if you are not finding iron on the board. It's usually as common as any other resource.

Mostly I see 'clay pits'.. I think I have one stable.. maybe no one has anything!.. Anyways, I just found my first mound of Ore.. with a Pioneer in my group, so I will be staking my claim as soon as I sign in!

I actually found a 'cheat' online by accident. If you make some Militia with the clubs, you can update them to Maces with only a Gilder cost (No Metal).. so it's better than nothing in a pinch!

Ok.. I finally got into trade talks with someone who had metal, and yes it was listed on their side. Resources must just be 'rare' on this map. I'm loving this game!!!.. Question when you re-design Units, is there a way to 'rename' that unit? I create two units (One and Archer, the other a Grunt), but they both auto named to 'knight'.. It's kind of annoying, I wish I could rename my re-designs.. I don't see a spot to do that in the editor, except renaming them after they are created, which would be stupid.

But still, I'm really enjoying this game.. a bargain!

I believe you just highlight the part where they are already named and type in whatever you wish. I know it can be done, which is why I have Undead Dragoons wrecking havoc  8)

Cool that works in the last save dialog!.. Thanks.. I was looking all over for a 'rename' button, should've known it was so simple!  8)

Got email today about patch 1.7

Arguably the biggest patch since Fallen Enchantress: Legendary Heroes' release more than a year ago, version 1.7 improves CPU-controlled factions' strategic acumen as well as introducing class-specific items for all five unique hero types, like Commander-only banners that boost the entire army's capabilities.

Download the patch free simply by signing into your Steam client.

Among other things, patch 1.7 includes:

Class-specific items – Commanders lead better than ever with unique banners, mages command the elements with new staves, and more
Significant AI improvements – AI rivals now develop their empires more effectively, for example through upgrading their outposts
Balancing across the board – Unrest modifiers have been tweaked to make sprawling empires less overwhelmingly powerful, and many unit and item stats have changed
Revamped army-strength logic – The method used for calculating army strength has been completely reworked, making evaluating threats easier for human and AI players alike
Much more – see full patch notes below.
Happy conquering!
