As much as I'd love to see this new Star Wars flick, I'm staying the hell away from theaters when it opens and giving it a couple of months to quiet down a bit. I have no desire to sit next to some sweaty overweight dude in a Bantha costume on one side and on the other, a sweaty overweight woman in a king-sized bedsheet thinking she's Princess Leia.

I'll probably go even farther and watch it on Netflix six months later.  :P

If I promise not to wear my Bantha costume, will it make a difference?

You've lost your sense of adventure!  I call that bonus entertainment!!

That new Sith saber hearkens back to the medieval times.  Sort of like a futuristic bastard sword complete with the hilt and scabbard.

Disney/Lucas went to a LOT of effort to change the ancient Sith home world's name from Korriban to Moriband, to the extent of changing the name in SWTOR and copy writing the name Moriband.

I didn't realize that happened. Dumb. The name Korriban was a much a part of the SW universe as Tatooine or Coruscant.

It came down to a snap decision by George Lucas while he was still in charge of the Clone Wars.  He changed the name during a story development meeting because he didn't like Korriban. In Clone Wars they refer to the planet as Moriband when Yoda visits it.

The fact that Disney/Lucas put a lot of effort into enacting the change across the canon makes me think the planet might appear in the film.

The changes to what is considered canon seems like a huge eff you to the fan base and the contributors like Zahn. Lucas was all too willing to cash in on others keeping Star Wars alive in the years between ROTJ and the prequels. And then it all just gets erased. I wasn't a huge fan of most of the EU stuff, but I respect that it meant something to a lot of other fans. Seems crappy to say now that none of it is really part of the Star Wars universe.

^ Honestly, I thought that the moment I heard JJ was directing this. There was no way they were going to stick with established canon, and admittedly that is another reason to keep me away from this film...at first, anyway. Star Wars is just too much of a draw for me not to see it, and to your point mirth, I'm pretty sure Lucas et al realizes that and knows they can do whatever the frig they want and they'll still rake in billions.

Now that I'm thinking of it I'm wondering how many Asian actors they're going to cast in this to pander to the Pacific Rim market.

I wouldn't mind seeing Jet Li as a sith lord [emoji4]

Nothing at all against Asians - just to pandering to a specific set of people or countries to maximize the cash spill from their wallet loins.

Business is business, I suppose, even if it is terribly transparent.

"Korriban": has subtle connotations maybe something to do with crows.

"Moriband": an actual word for "dying" with one letter changed.

Thanks George. Go away now.

Btw, Michael Kaminski's Secret History of Star Wars is a pretty amazingly researched project tracing how Lucas wrote or plotted the previous six films. Paperback's pricey but the Kindle edition's less than $9. Well worth it for anyone interested in story development generally and/or intellectual property development and/or Star Wars production.
