Just received the 3rd Expansion to Darkest Night - From the Abyss in the mail.  Going to setup a play through and see how it goes.  The new Darkness cards appears to me what was missing from the previous expansions.  This puts some pressure on the player and makes the game more intense.  There are also some new Events and Artifact cards included as well.....

Hory Crap!  It got even more difficult?

The couple times I won was by the skin of my teeth.  The red monster/threat counters in one of the previous expansions usually puts the Doom track screws to me at some point.  I usually get the ones that advance the doom track and extra space coming out steadily, sometimes two on the board at a time.  Things turn brutal when those show up in the same space as other threats that prevent you from killing it first or that have a lot of high-end attacks at the end of every turn you're there working on it.  Brutal, I say!

:)

Looks like Shadows Of Brimstone just showed up at CSI.  So it's hitting FLGS shelves.  O0

My pre-order is being processed.  So I should have far too much mini assembly and painting to do soon.  It could make me lose some Sanity Points by the end.

I have the following waiting on the table:

- Enemy Coast Ahead: The Dambuster Raid
- Last Frontier: The Vesuvius Incident
- A Victory Denied
- Operation Afghanistan
- Hunters Over Korea
- Forlorn Hope

"Shadows of Brimstone"?  Is that some kind of pu$$y eurogame?  Let me go see what BGG says about that damn meeple and card game; I'll start with the pictures first because I'll be able to tell what a POS game it is just by looking at the graphics...

Woah...that got my attention.  Ok, I'll look a little deeper now...

QuoteShadows of Brimstone: City of the Ancients is a fast-paced, fully cooperative, dungeon-crawl board game set in the Old West, with a heavy dose of unspeakable horror! Players create characters, taking on the role of a classic Western Hero Archetype, such as the Law Man, Gunslinger, or Saloon Girl. Forming an adventuring posse, the Heroes venture down into the dark mines, overrun with all manner of ancient demons and foul creatures from another world. With tactical gameplay, lots of dice, and a robust card-driven exploration system, no two games are ever the same as the heroes explore the mines finding new enemies to fight, new loot to collect, and new dangers to overcome. Players can even find portals to other worlds, stepping through to continue their adventures on the other side!

Well hell, that sounds pretty feckin' cool actually!

LOL

I threw up my hands in surrender when I found out it was Lovecraftian Horror in the Wild West.  And co-op/soliatire to boot.

Only problem is all the damn gluing needed for the hordes of minis.  A bit labor intensive up front.

Tiger Leader is looking like a must have. That and one of the Field of Fire 2nd edition games are on my wish list as far as boardgames go.

I wanted Tiger Leader when I heard it used similar hex tile map setups as those in Thunderbolt Apache Leader, which is great.  But I've been kinda icy about it since seeing the component art.  Not sure if like.  Plus.. I tend to avoid WW2 stuff more often than not these days.

BanzaiCat

I saw their YouTube video on Tiger Leader...pre-production components to be sure, but still fairly decent-looking. Can't wait to see the final result.

Barthheart

I got in on the Tiger Leader kickstarter right at the end. Can't wait fer March.

I don't know if it's a "best" game, but here's a 1-minute solitaire Bulge game

One minute?  Is that even a game?

If it were sex, I wouldn't be sure if I just had it at that rate.

I guess that would depend on which Bulge you were talking about....

I ordered Darkest Night today. Just the base game. I'll have to wait for expansions. You guys like the base game alone?

Yes.

I love Darkest Night for solitaire play.  Some people say they like A Touch Of Evil more, as they are vaguely similar (maybe in theme?  I don't see too many similarities), but I've played much more DN.  The varied player class powers are an immensely fun mechanic, making the play style different for each one and each class can even get different upgrades between different games.  The rules also aren't terribly heavy and it's pretty easy to break it back out months later and get started fairly quickly.  Despite the rules being light, there is still lots of strategic decisions to be made, which puts this game into one of my gaming sweet spots.  O0

Seeing other people play it on YouTube doesn't give it justice as the ones I've seen don't point out the various strategies that can be acted upon each turn, usually deliberating off camera.

You can get by just fine with the base set.  Actually, I think it's easier to win with the base set because the expansions add more stuff for the bad guy (the red enemy counters can be downright brutal in numbers) and the Quests have a countdown where you get penalized if you fail to compete them by the turn limit on each.

I'm not sure if the base game is too easy - it may be.  But you can definitely see if you enjoy the gameplay and purchase from there if you want to raise it to eleven.
