I thought Skyfall was pretty good.  What didn't you like about it.
'Here at NASA we all pee the same color.'  Al Harrison from the movie Hidden Figures.

Silent Disapproval Robot

Pretty much everything.

The villain was a lamer copy of Sean Bean from Goldeneye.  Silva's diabolical plot made absolutely no sense.  For his plan to work, a chain of events have to occur in a way that are beyond Silva's control.  So Silva's scheme is to get captured by MI6 so he can plant a virus in their PCs as a distraction so he can then go kill M at the hearing.  He's even got two fake cops planted there to hand off a package of stuff to him.  OK, but then the film tells us that the only way Bond caught him was by analyzing a bullet fragment in the dead assassin.  This leads Bond to some guy who has a poker chip from a casino so he goes there and manages to find some chick who just happens to know where Silva's hiding out.  So how'd he know exactly when Bond would nab him? Just how many days were those fake cops just supposed to stand around in the subway tunnel, holding their package in the hopes that Silva would show up.  Yet somehow we're supposed to believe that Silva had it timed out so perfectly that he'd been able to plan it so exactly that he even knew when to trigger a bomb to drop a train on Bond.

Bond's plan wasn't a whole lot better.  So Bond plants hidden information in MI6's computers for Silva to find to let him know that Bond and M will be hiding out at Bond's family estate in Scotland.  OK, but if you're going to inform the bad guy of this, why would you even bring M there at all?  She's a withered old woman, not a field agent.  The only link Silva has to M at this point is what Bond tells him so why not hide here anywhere else on the planet? And why wouldn't you set up defences a little more robust than "angry old Scottish git with a shotgun" if you know the baddies are coming?

Other bits of stupidity are having Q meet Bond in the middle of an art museum during open hours to hand him a pistol in full view of everyone at the gallery.
And having nice, bright green LEDs on the pistol because that's always good in low light situations when you're trying to be sneaky.

I thought Casino Royale was great.  Quantum of Solace was alright but suffered from a weak bad guy.  Skyfall was shit.  The trend isn't going in the right direction.

To be fair, look who complaining.   ;)
I enjoyed it as a Bond film.
Jarhead - Yeah. You're probably right.

Gus - I use sweatpants with flannel shorts to soak up my crotch sweat.

Banzai Cat - There is no "partial credit" in grammar. Like anal sex. It's either in, or it's not.

Mirth - We learned long ago that they key isn't to outrun Star, it's to outrun Gus.

Martok - I don't know if it's possible to have an "anti-boner"...but I now have one.

Gus - Celery is vile and has no reason to exist. Like underwear on Star.

Giggity!  Definitely looking forward to this.

Monica Bellucci  O0  :smitten:
+1

I'm honestly surprised she hadn't been a Bond girl already.

I hope there will be some worthwhile connections to QUANTUM, since that group was already basically SPECTRE.

There will be.  The actor who played Mr. White confirms he'll be returning in Spectre.

QUANTUM was only used as a name because when Casino Royale was released, there was still an ongoing dispute with the McLory over the ownership of SPECTRE and the Blofeld character.

Only after McLory died and his estate sold the Thunderball rights back to EON in 2013 was SPECTRE finally available for use in the Bond canon.

I'm loving it, Bond hasn't quite been Bond without SPECTRE.  I'm hoping Waltz is playing Blofeld, really hoping.

Everyone's noted how the bullet resembles the SPECTRE logo.  But has anyone else caught the little callback of a single bullet hole in glass to a certain scene at the end of On Her Majesty's Secret Service?

^^ Ah, nice! (Yes, knew QUANTUM was supposed to be the new SPECTRE due to rights issues, but didn't know Mr. White would be back to forge the link properly.)

And nice! Nope hadn't noticed the callback to OHMSS. Hope they don't try to do that plot twist... too soon after Vesper, who notably was presented as being Miss Moneypenny, M's accountant. "Are you the money?" "Every penny." I realize they had to introduce an 'official' one eventually, but I was still kind of sad that they did. (Also sad that the writers intentionally killed the "James Bond is a code name" theory with Skyfall.)

As for Monica, I always figured she had too much class artistically and personally than to end up joining a line of actresses on an extra promo, talking about how each of them wanted to do something different with the Bond girl.  :buck2:

All you really need is, "Bond. James Bond".

In Bond-related news, Christopher Lee, one of the key real-life inspirations for the character, died this past Sunday. (I just found out while checking on some other things.)

Indeed. R.I.P. Saruman/Dracula/ Taramunga. I heard he was in the SAS during WWII. He probably had real life stories more exciting than the parts he played. A great loss.

Yeah, Skyfall started out ok, but ended-up disappointing me.  Bond movies (IMHO) should have cheeky humour, wonder, colour, gadgets, hot babes, and all-that.

If Skyfall was a movie about another secret agent, it would have been fine.  But it was a Bond-movie, it didn't follow the canon as I would have liked, so it left me cold.

Looks like Spectre is going to be more like Skyfall than anything else, which does nothing to excite me.
Any time is a good time for pie.

mirth

Skyfall made $1.1bn, so get used to this new style of Bond film.

FWIW, I wasn't much of a fan of it either.
