I wish the Galaxy map would NOT let you set a system as your destination if your ship can't make the bloody jump though.

And the reason I get disorientated in the map is because when you go back in, it puts you in the default view...and you have to scan around again to try and find the system you wanted to jump to next

Fuel isn't the problem, the maximum jump distance is.   If you set a destination and you can reach it there will be a connection showing in yellow between your start location and the destination.
Sometimes it may take you 10 jumps to reach something that appears to be close (eg ten 8 LY jumps to reach a destination that is 10 LY away because the maximum jump distance for your ship with cargo is only 8.5).
The game doesn't remember the waypoints, so you better write them down.

I'm still having some issues with the Galaxy map. For a start I get rather disorientated. Second, I can select a place as a destination but going back to the ship it says it exceeds my fuel limit - even though looking at the fuel (which shows blue for what would be used in your journey) I have enough.

What I end up doing (rather annoyingly) is jumping from system to system going to the Galaxy map each time (and I get further disorientated). I'm just trying to get to Sol and making an absolute hash of it.

My fault - not the game. I just don't know wtf I'm doing in the map and with fuel and jumping - I just don't get it.

This is one of the main problems with the game.  It's badly in need of a route planner that can program in a series of jumps.  The devs seem to understand this though, and it seems to be something that we're going to get, someday.

There is a third party tool for route planning if you're desperate

I just find it difficult to use the galaxy map. I scroll around to see where I want to go, select the system, go back to the game and can't jump there. So I go back into the map and I have to scroll around again to try and remember which way I was headed...rinse repeat.

I just find it a bit awkward at the minute. But I haven't really used it much outside of jumping between systems and haven't done too much in the way of going too far - normally staying fairly local (within a few systems).

Time is all that's required - hopefully.

...finally got gamma access, but having problems with the game recognizing my Wingman Extreme 3D joystick.   Anyone else with a W3D have any trouble getting through the checklist?  Thx...

Isn't the checklist just an immersion thing?
It doesnt have to mean the game doesn't recognise it. You should look in the Controls bindingsmiddel for that. Perhaps unassaigned functions or double controllers cause you problems?

Well yes it is but I guess if he's going through the "immersion thing" and it's not working, then there's an issue with his joystick (or his mapping).

steve58 - this might be an egg sucking thing, but have you gone through and bound the various buttons and axis of your joystick to the games controls? If you haven't, then the checklist might likely not recognise your inputs. I can't remember if the game automatically detects your joystick or not - I don't think it did, but that was early on.

...or, just shut the checklist off. It gets old after the first time anyway.

Every time you have a new game start you MUST go through the checklist so it is more than just immersion.  If you can't go through it you can't start the main game.  Once in the game you can disable the checklist.

Check (in Options / Controls / Presets)  if your preset isn't set to keyboard and mouse or keyboard.  I made some changes to the keybindings and joystick buttons and i have to select Custom as preset.  If the preset is set to keyboard it doesn't accept any input from the joystick.

I use a Logitech Extreme 3D Pro which should be quite similar and everything works fine.

Damn autocorrect.. :)
But yeah, what JD said.

This is what I read also.  Thx for the input guys.  I was hoping the game would have some presets for my joystick, but since it doesn't, look like I need to go in and set everything.

I was a touch concerned though about a comment Brookes made today about "hoping" a wipe wouldn't be needed AFTER release.  If there's a post release day wipe, it's going to be Attica.

Hi guys,

This is just a quick update to confirm that there won't be a wipe at launch.

Nefaro

Hell.. I was a bit pissed when a recent IL2:BOS patch wiped my custom key & joystick settings from the game.  That's something I absolutely loathe doing in simulators and they're gonna make me do it again?   :knuppel2:

I've not bothered to go back and play it since reading about that in the patch notes.  It is obviously still in an Early Access condition when updates require stuff like that.   >:(   Not sure if I'd consider Elite still in a beta condition but aren't there promised features still missing now that release date is near?

Yay!

I saw that today and am pretty psyched.  I've actually been putting some time into the game, and managed to get myself a nice Viper with about 100k of upgrades on board, and still have around 40k in the bank.  The law has come to the Galaxy.

It's going to be great not having to start over.
