Hell.. I was a bit pissed when a recent IL2:BOS patch wiped my custom key & joystick settings from the game.  That's something I absolutely loathe doing in simulators and they're gonna make me do it again?   :knuppel2:

I've not bothered to go back and play it since reading about that in the patch notes.  It is obviously still in an Early Access condition when updates require stuff like that.   >:(   Not sure if I'd consider Elite still in a beta condition but aren't there promised features still missing now that release date is near?

Just make a backup of your config folder and paste it back in when the patch is done.  I haven't had any issues doing so yet.

so I suspect some wee shite is pleased as punch with himself that he killed Cmdr JudgeDredd.

Commander P3n15 strikes again!
Jarhead - Yeah. You're probably right.

Gus - I use sweatpants with flannel shorts to soak up my crotch sweat.

Banzai Cat - There is no "partial credit" in grammar. Like anal sex. It's either in, or it's not.

Mirth - We learned long ago that they key isn't to outrun Star, it's to outrun Gus.

Martok - I don't know if it's possible to have an "anti-boner"...but I now have one.

Gus - Celery is vile and has no reason to exist. Like underwear on Star.

I was a touch concerned though about a comment Brookes made today about "hoping" a wipe wouldn't be needed AFTER release.  If there's a post release day wipe, it's going to be Attica.

Hi guys,

This is just a quick update to confirm that there won't be a wipe at launch.

Yay!

I saw that today and am pretty psyched.  I've actually been putting some time into the game, and managed to get myself a nice Viper with about 100k of upgrades on board, and still have around 40k in the bank.  The law has come to the Galaxy.

It's going to be great not having to start over.

depending on your style of play its not too popular over there

Yeah, I saw that there was some frustration on the part of those who were just "fooling around" till release.

Honestly, FD should've from day one just said there would be a final wipe and never backed off it, that way they wouldn't have created the issue where they were bound to upset someone.

I was just fooling around and testing for the last couple of weeks.  I tried mining, trading, exploring and finally bounty hunting, pretty much feeling out my direction for launch day.  The fact that they announced no wipe just means that all my progress I made while "fooling" around won't be lost.

I also won't have to slog my way to a decent star system to start again either.  That's worth its weight in gold.

By the way, if you don't have it already, there is an "elite" app for iOS that let's you keep track of market prices at the station you are docked in, ships available, etc.

Yep, Slopey's ED Market tool.  Very, very good.  If you run the Win 7-8 version it talks to you in the background, including a few choice HAL 9000 quotes.

So people are pissed because they've been fooling around in case of a launch day wipe - and ED have now said there won't be a launch day wipe?

So what's the worst that has happened here - people have spent a couple of weeks fooling around. What's the best thing that's happening? They keep all the progress they've made.  O0

FFS - people getting their panties in a twist on receipt of good news.  :knuppel2:

There were probably a few idiots who gambled away everything of value and committed other jackassery thinking there would be no long-term consequences.

the "fools" or 'extrem adventurous' to say it in a positive way can delete their save (a personal wipe) and should get their stats clear and their freeagle back,  aren't they ?

i liked the good news :D
now it made sense for me to start the adventure , grind work my way to the first Cobra and then maybe a second with a total different load out... which later may get exchanged for different exploring vessels

its good to have two ships handy:)
... yesterday i was hawling coffee for and clothes back and make 10k a roundtrip. the good thing its inside a star-sytem , so interdiction is rare (i stay away from the navpoint this way)  I frequently checked the message board and a faction want 2 gold for 37k. so I parked my 'Cargo-Miner' Hauler got out the still fragile Eagle (which has at least 3 gimbled weapons atm),  and just the 2 cargo-space needed. From exploring a star nearby with the Eagle (and selling the data) i knew there was an Outpost who exports gold written in system description. I got the gold, made it save back...phew, and cashed-in about 17k :-) , parked the Eagle and now its coffee-trade grind again... or another message pops up.

is that external fanmade-tool also available on Android ?

No, people are upset because there's an exploit with rare goods and some people are earning 10 million an hour - the people that are upset are either pissed because they decided not to exploit because there's a wipe coming, or because there are now people flying around in totally classed out pythons

FD have said they are checking peoples accounts for cheating, and ships will be repossessed, that they will close the exploit but they're still not wiping

The majority of people are just purists who wanted everyone, new and old to start at 100 credits and a sidewinder, I kind of agree but its not the end of my world - what has been predicted is that all those upset will form their own group of ironman players where they all start new

I imagine groups will appear for every taste and slant on the game - how this will impact on straight up open play only FD will know

SirAndrewD

Yeah, the whole exploit thing was the primary argument on the pro-wipers.

I don't really get it though.  As far as I saw, the exploit was only usable to Kickstarter backers with the free Cobra, and FD shouldn't have much trouble tracking down the exploiters and doing a wipe.

There are going to be exploits in any game.  Devs can't wipe everyone every time one comes up.

It's not even a truly competitive game anyway.  Since Gamma I've rarely even seen another player, and only had one single combat related interaction with a human.  The Galaxy is so big, I can pretty much avoid human interaction as long as I'm not in the popular systems like Sol or Lave.

And of course you have Solo play.

The only really compelling argument for a wipe was to balance the economy, which some claim got negatively affected by all the money exploiters.  Honestly though, I haven't had any problem trading at a good profit, so I don't see that either.

So what if it was an exploit and so what if people did make bazillions out of it? It's a game.

I don't really give a crap what other people do with the game - I'll be doing my thing.

You'll get hackers everyday in every game. So these got the jump on others? So? Anyone who thinks everyone starting from zero will mean it's fair play from release are deluding themselves. Like every other game online, there'll be hacks available pretty soon after release.

I have no doubt that even if there was a wipe, someone would have the biggest badass ship available well before I even get enough money for an upgrade. But that's gaming for you. Someone will play it 24/7, and I'll play it when I want my space kicks.

It doesn't really bother me how other people are playing the game.

The only pissy thing that gets me is people jumping you for no reason. If I've got a bounty on my head...fine. If I've got some nice juicy cargo....ok, that's cool. But just jumping me and blowing the shite out of me just to be a twat? Nah...that's get's on my preverbials.

Server down for maintenance??  How often does that occur? ....and just when I wanted to try to practice docking which I seem to totally suck at :-[  That recently cancelled SP off-line mode would be nice right about now...

nvm...just saw this:
