Actually closer to home recently, in Jackson (I'm 2 hours from Memphis, 45 min from J), someone was protesting with a sign saying "Jackson is Ferguson" because a cop wasn't indicted for shooting a black man in the back while the man was running away.

Running away from having just stabbed the cop.

The black cop.

I'm trying to hope that sign was meant to be deeply ironic satire.  :P But the cynical side of my mind is pretty sure it isn't.

My favorite part of all of this is how Columbia Law students can get an extension on their exams due to mental hardship of the grand jury decisions in Ferguson and New York. Apparently there are many losing faith in our justice system.

I can understand what is happening to a small degree, higher education is a stronghold of liberalism and all of the values contained within that paradigm. At the same time, (as I remember) people could still put on their thinking caps and rationally examine other points of view (if pressed). I cannot imagine the insanity going on within higher education these days if things like this are happening. There are too many professors wishing it was the 60s again.

On a related note, admissions at the University of Missouri- St. Louis are down for the winter semester, down a lot. UMSL is a few miles away from the center of the riots and looting, but smack in the middle of the depressed neighborhoods in North St. Louis County. I know the media will downplay this, but it is an early symptom of accelerated white flight.

The out of town activists simply don't understand the underlying problems in the St. Louis area. As a result they hurt those they pretend to champion.
