A good point, Greybriar. I might be misquoting the conversation (it was a long time ago), but the gist was how any other race other than Anglo cannot possibly be racist against white people. It didn't make much sense to me but I think she was trying to say that Anglos can be racists, but other races cannot be. Which was utter ignorance, IMO.

I've heard this logic before BC. Because whites are the majority and the power, it is impossible to be racist towards them...at least that's the way I think the thinking goes. Except it all goes to hell because they blanket label whites just for being white. Kinda like not letting you eat at my restaurant just because you're black.

I support and believe in equality, but in this political environment, "equality" seems to be a metaphor for "reparations", "quotas", "wealth redistribution" and equally heinous formulas which are anything but "equality". The most frustrating experience of my life has involved raising my sons to be color blind, only to see them judged by others for their "privileged" birth. The Democratic party needs to ask itself if the bottoming out support of the white middle class means that we have all suddenly donned white sheets, or perhaps is it a growing awareness that their intentions for us are nothing less than looting and creating a subservient culture in which we of European birth are all expected to forever pay for the sins of our ancestors?

I refuse.

I thought the reparations idea got shot down as ridiculous a while back.  I remember Ice Cube's Barbershop movie (2002) had a great skit skewering that topic, and it's made me laugh ever since.

The subject is still being kicked around between various politicians, interest groups and even the Justice Dept. I read an article about the very thing on RealClearPolitics within the last year, although I didn't keep it.

Gusington

I'm not paying sh*t in reparations if they ever come around since 1/3 of my money that I earn by actually going to work everyday is already redistributed and my family didn't arrive in the US until around 1910.

I need reparations.

Not sure about what yet, but I wanted to get my marker in.

Hel, I wasn't even born in the US. They got nuthin' on me that dates before 1966 and even then how much repression and exploitation can a three-year old kid commit anyway?

My great-great-great grandfather came here from Ireland with his young wife and baby son in 1860 and immediately joined the Union Army. And immediately after that was wounded at First Bull Run and died from his wounds.

'Murica owes my family rep'rations!

^Wow that is a raw deal.

Jarhead - Yeah. You're probably right.

Gus - I use sweatpants with flannel shorts to soak up my crotch sweat.

Banzai Cat - There is no "partial credit" in grammar. Like anal sex. It's either in, or it's not.

Mirth - We learned long ago that they key isn't to outrun Star, it's to outrun Gus.

Martok - I don't know if it's possible to have an "anti-boner"...but I now have one.

Gus - Celery is vile and has no reason to exist. Like underwear on Star.

I happened to catch this comment from a story on Slate. The story is unrelated to the St. Louis Riots, but the commentator is a Democratic campaign worker and seems to shine some light on part of the problem....

Damn racists makes it so hard to criticize people for talking about race, but here it goes. One of my favorite stories from my last campaign occurred while folding t-shirts we were going to sell. I notice we have "African Americans for Obama", "Asians for Obama", "Women for Obama". We didn't have "White people for Obama". I jokingly said, "Hey, where's my t-shirt?" to my fellow volunteer. To which she replied, when she figured out what I meant, "That is so racist, I can't believe you would say that!!!!" We were literally folding t-shirts that were for sale to specific races of people, and I was being racist for wanting the white guy shirt. I think that kind of mentality goes right up to the top of the Democratic political machine.

Perfect example of the hypocrisy.

I love it when black folk get in my shit about not understanding what its like to be an oppressed minority.
and they never have a response to my thought process.
which amounts to this in the short form:

Im part of a religious group that numbers less then 12 million world wide out of a population base of over 6.5 billion.  my people were slaves over 2000 years before America was even discovered and the most recent trials encompassed 6 million people getting rounded up and killed.  ya, your great great grandfather might have been a slave but I dont have a great great grandfather because that guy was killed in a German extermination camp.
so fuck you.

Nice comeback, Star. I can only imagine that stops most people with half a brain in their heads, in their tracks.

Also to the point - most everyone's ancestors has at one time or another over the last few millennia been slaves to another power, even Anglo-on-Anglo slavery. But Anglos are hardly the only "black oppressors" out there. Where's the black anger at the Greeks, for having African slaves back in the day? Or the Egyptians? Or the Italians? Or the...on and on.

I'm Irish. Shouldn't I hate UK people? Nope. Any suffering "my people" have suffered at their hands (which would likely be a stretch in research I think) was 150+ years ago and therefore well out of my life. I can only move forward. I wish other people would do that, too.
