I still haven't finished the tutorials.  I just don't feel like sitting down and taking the time it's going to require to properly set up the HOTAS controls right now.  Maybe over the weekend.

Ha!  Yeah.

There's that too.

I gave mine a once-over setup.  And something got jacked up so I had to redo all my HOTAS mapping once more.  Then, when I started the docking tutorial, I started noticing all kinds of stuff I wanted to change.

So I gave up for the moment.  Wasn't motivated enough to go through the multiple trial & error remaps just yet.  Hoping I'll get psyched about it sometime in the coming year.

Some of the keymap titles made me scratch my head as to whether I should put them on my HOTAS and where.  Not knowing how much I'd be using many of them, by their names alone, made me think that perhaps I should just go full keyboard and mouse for awhile until I get an idea.   :-\

Debatable.

I generally use my joystick for flight simming and it is quite good in this, but I find the need to go to the keyboard anyway (and my lack of memory for remembering all the buttons) confuses the issue somewhat.

With keys, you can assign the most obvious one (S for Supercruise, H for Hyperdrive etc, etc)...with a joystick, you assign a button and have to remember it.

I've got it down pat with my joystick now...but be away from the game for too long, and my memory fades...and it's a learning process again.

Whatever you do don't start the game without your joystick plugged in if you have mapped them, because either IT resets everything or it's the upgrade...I don't know but I had to remap all my controls again yesterday.

That's quite bad if proven to be consistent for everyone

Think I might break down tonight and buy this.  Is there mouse control of your ship like X3, or is the joystick mandatory?

I can't imagine trying to fly without a stick. You really need yaw and lateral thrusters (both vertical and horizontal)...not to mention head turning in the cockpit

Jarhead - Yeah. You're probably right.

Gus - I use sweatpants with flannel shorts to soak up my crotch sweat.

Banzai Cat - There is no "partial credit" in grammar. Like anal sex. It's either in, or it's not.

Mirth - We learned long ago that they key isn't to outrun Star, it's to outrun Gus.

Martok - I don't know if it's possible to have an "anti-boner"...but I now have one.

Gus - Celery is vile and has no reason to exist. Like underwear on Star.

Like Nef said, I found that once I'd mapped some controls it screwed up other stuff.  I mapped the directional thrusters to a POV hat on my stick but then later found this caused issues in navigating the menus on the side panels.  It also screwed up some docking stuff and the tutorial would then get less than helpful.  "Push UnBound now."  It also doesn't differentiate between stick and throttle so it'll say "push Joy 3" but it might be referring to button 3 on the stock or button 3 on the throttle.  For me, one is missiles and the other is landing gear.  I think missiles in the docking bay might be a landing faux pas.

I'm seeing a lot more players than I figured I would.  In the news section it said that in the last 24 hours 5000 ships had passed through, does that mean 5000 players?  Thats pretty awesome if so.

The feel of the game is spot on.  Its not an exaggeration when I say that it is exactly the sort of thing I've always wanted.  The sounds are incredible.

That's down to sticktime. Spend more time in the game and it will become natural after a short while.

So true! :) Its a matter of priorities, though. :D

Or the game allowing me to do so...until last night, it wasn't playing ball.  :-\
