there's an article about him in USA Today or something.  Apparently he's gotten some hate mail from people so stupid as to think he would've donated his truck to them

Thank goodness someone took the time to blur the faces of the guys in the truck. Otherwise they might have had to cope with a bit of uncouth correspondence as well.  ::)

Looks like it was originally some ISIS propaganda photo so they probabably did it.

Yeah, I figured that and I know why. It just makes them look so lame: 'bad-ass holy warriors' afraid mommy might find out what they're up to now.

Was there ever an explanation as to how that guy's truck ended up all the way over there?

It's actual more sinister than that. A lot of the ISIS fighters have come from Western Europe and want to go back eventually, and the Europeans are putting a lot of effort into finding out who they are. Lots of people in Europe are very concerned about all these young radicals going to the Middle East to get their training and then coming back to sow violence at home. Given that, it makes sense that a guy who wants to return to the UK or France or wherever would try to keep his face unknown.

Right, that's what I was referring to- for example the FBI's work trying to use facial recog to ID the English accented IS-hole who beheaded the first hostage. Still, it must send some kind of message to potential recruits that eventually the 'Caliphate' will end up losing so better not let anyone know you were ever a part of it.

Brant has a link to a USAToday story a few posts up.

The news article I read said the guy sold his truck to an outfit that was supposed to remove the logo. Clearly that never happened. After that the chain of custody isn't so clear, though I have a sneaky suspicion it's a lot clearer now to some folks whose job is to take an interest in such things.
