I don't know how many peeps here enjoy a relaxing round of PC golf but the boys over at Perfect Parallel got a go on their golf game for a January 22 early access release on steam.  Looks exciting.

I got The Golf Club some time last year...so I'm not in for another one.

The Golf Club is ok...I wish, though, that it wasn't forcing you to use the mouse as the club...I find it very hard to control...especially small shots and putting.

Hi JD,  I'll eat my hat if this game isn't much better than TGC.  I prefer mouse swing rather than clicking but will play both.    I'll be buying first day and will report back.

I have an opening for a golf game in my library.  The ones I've eyed thus far don't seem to quite have all I want.  Not sure if this one has some kind of persistent career mixed with the usual course play, but it looks good.

Oh - I'm not saying this won't be better. Just that I'm not really into buying another golf game.

Besides - myself and mirth have a New Years resolution not to buy any new games this year...ain't that right mirth?  ;)

FWIW they have a forum with a number of videos posted.  I've had no contact with them for a few years but I know Mike and Andrew Jones (no relation) and they are first class people . Golf  is one of their passions as you can see from the website.  It's not like they're going to release this and move onto something else.   :)

They also have a course forge for user built courses in the plans. I have no knowledge of how difficult it is to build course in comparison to APCD for Links 2003 or Jack Nicklaus golf.

My bad for misunderstanding the intent of your post.  Please accept my apology.  I understand too many games not enough money or time to enjoy them all. ;)

Of the several issues I have with TGC, this is the big one.  Putting is horrendous.  I can sort of see why they chose this method of control - to give the player more of a "feel" for touch shots.  It doesn't work IMO because there is no sense of the inertia of the club.  Most games get over this by using a power bar, which is obviously gamey, but at least gives you a visual clue about the weight of swing.

I love all golf games and this looks good, so likely first day buy for me......I also own TGC and really was never fully impressed with it so hoping this one turns out better.  It seems like the price will be $19.99 so not much of a risk for me.

Everything I have read is that when they made the design decision to eliminate load times by displaying the ENTIRE course at once, they created unsolvable issues with memory and RAM.

The second decision that has me shaking my head is the way that you hit the shots. Most folks use a block of wood to shape their shots straight on, and perfectly. It isn't uncommon to see mid 50's on a difficult user-generated course. Mid 50's is a show-stopper for ANY golf program, for me.

JD's going to buy another game. It's only a matter of time! >:D

Well lads - I thank you for your support - but no...I won't be buying a new game.  :-X

If I were to, it wouldn't be another golf game. I may well pick this up in the future, but it will be on a sale.

I'd recommend people hold off on the purchase unless they want to participate in a beta process.  There's a lot to build on, the ball physics look outstanding to me and at the higher settings (if your PC can handle it/ mine can't) you haven't seen a better golf game IMO . Even at the lower settings it's fantastic.  After playing about 4 hours yesterday lie marker is definitely needed (already planned) and putting could be harder . I was playing easiest setting and the putting meter gave you close to distance IMO.

As stated this game is early access and isn't the finished product. I'll have more thoughts as it evolves.

Shhh!   You'll tempt JD to buy it, talking like that.

Although if it seems they'll actually finish it at some point, he may not be interested after all.  >:D

JudgeDredd

OI!

All the games I buy into early get finished. Not all to a great standard admittedly.  :))
