Lead designer is Chris King.

If the name sounds familiar, he was lead on CK 2 and EU IV.  That alone is enough to make this an auto-purchase when it unlocks on Steam later today.  I think the whole development team is ex-Paradox.

The $15 price tag helps as well.

Interesting. It looks very MOO3-ish. I will have to keep an eye on this one.

This game looks and sounds promising.  I like the fact that there is an military industrial complex.  You can hire companies to build ships for you.  The site doesn't mention what kind of game this is but I'm going to assume it is real time but pausable just like most Paradox games?

From the Steam page on this vs. Distant Worlds:

QuoteStraight of the bat, Distant Worlds: Universe is pausable real time and we are turn based.

It may have a good pedigree, but I don't see anything in the screenshots or in the very brief game description that entices me to buy. Hopefully, I'm wrong and it will be great...

This looks like yet more color by numbers space 4x -- why is this genre so ridiculously averse to innovation and fresh thinking???   >:(

RedArgo

Nothing here to entice me to buy early.  I've still got two 4x games purchased that aren't done yet.

Hopefully it turns out good.

What is combat like?  Tactical or watching sliders fight back and forth?

Tpek

I noticed it earlier last week, but it looks too simplistic.
Maybe I'm wrong though.

I still wonder why we are flooded with so many space and fantasy turn-based 4x games but no one wants to take a crack at a historical, Civilization-type one? Does Sid have ways of making his competition disappear?  :D

^ Yeah, but that doesn't go from the Stone Age to the Space Age. :(

Unlike Gusington, I have always hankered for a more limited historical Civ-type game, something where you have to solve local problems with local organization before you can think about conquering Alpha Centauri.  Not sure if this it, but I'm definitely interested.
