I have great news for those who suffer HDOCD, I have a cure. Its immediate and highly effective- have kids! Once the first kids peeks his or her head out, your spare time will magically disappear along with all your petty worries about games or hard drives. Warning- once your start the recovery process it takes 18 years and you can never quit. Oh, and its very expensive.

I smothered mine with a pillow early on.  Call it a savings plan.  :P

Whats so hard about setting up a RAID array?
Jarhead - Yeah. You're probably right.

Gus - I use sweatpants with flannel shorts to soak up my crotch sweat.

Banzai Cat - There is no "partial credit" in grammar. Like anal sex. It's either in, or it's not.

Mirth - We learned long ago that they key isn't to outrun Star, it's to outrun Gus.

Martok - I don't know if it's possible to have an "anti-boner"...but I now have one.

Gus - Celery is vile and has no reason to exist. Like underwear on Star.

I'm with Swatter.  It's amazing what two small children, a demanding job, and a wife who also works has done to reduce my demand for games.  I probably buy 5-10 games a year, but when my HD craps out every 4-5 years, I just don't accumulate enough of them to make it a problem at all.

Jardhead, would it help you to keep your HD drive clean if you thought of it as a modern-day metaphorical rifle?   :)

He does but he considers his game files to be a beta-mag.   :D

What's worse is when I get a new hard drive I always save the old one in case I need to go back for any files I might need.  :D

I'll do you one better. I keep the whole system. I currently have 5 towers collecting dust in my place.

That's the way to go, I think.  When my last machine blew up, I had a back up that was like a time capsule from March 2013: all installed and ready to go.  Now I'm feeling like I need a similar set up so I have two back ups...but its somewhat pointless since I have so little on the current system.

Hard drive obsessive compulsive disorder. I swear they need to add this to the DSM.

I have 2 terabytes of hard drive space that is almost completely full. I'm constantly struggling to maintain 200 gigabytes free. I have games installed that I am almost certain I will never play, but I get anxiety if I delete them. It is totally irrational. I know most of the data is game related because that is pretty much all I use my computer for. No movies, no porn (ok, there is some, but under 2 gb) no commercial applications, etc.

Anybody else have the uncontrollable compulsion to keep large quantities of games installed that never get play time? I hope so...I'm starting a support group.

Guilty....

For some however, I have a good reason. These are games that have required special care and compatibility tests and fine tuning...these games I just can't take away (Paraworld and Rise & Fall to mention a few). They mostly need my time to finally play them but they won't be uninstalled. Oh...and all the games that need lots of patches that I have downloaded etc...

I think that steam and GOG help me. I feel less urged to keep these games on my HD than games I downloaded once (matrix) or have on dvds. It's really to have games updated and ready for download at any times.

That's nothing....I've got the old computers running too! From time to time I turn them on, do some things, play 10 minutes to be sure everything's ok and that's it. :uglystupid2:

I not only keep everything installed I can, I have external hard drives that I dump the installers to 'just in case'.  Actually with my Direct2Drive purchases it saved my bacon.

Do you really need to kill the buzz with a practical solution?  :2funny:  :o

Just wanted to point out a Windows issue I discovered, related to a lot of missing hard drive space being reserved for recovery backups.

HALF my hard drive space on two of my computers! It was inflaming my HDOCD:

HDOCD is a very peculiar form of mental anxiety disorder. It is different than disorders associated with buying games. We all know I suffer from that, as well. HDOCD manifests itself as the compulsion to not only buy them and have them in your library, but to have them actively installed. I would expect the convenience of the steam library would mitigate the severity of the anxiety caused by HDOCD, but alas, it does not. Only the highlighted color of an installed title can sooth the symptoms and forestall sickness and shakes.
OMG! :o This is a pandemic! I have the same symptoms! :D
