Anyway...the phrase "underwater depth charges" in the article got to me. Does anyone know of depth charges that are NOT used underwater?  ::)

::)

They are probably writing for the mental level of their readership.

True, but that doesn't mean that the mental level of the writership isn't sinking to the level of the readership...

FIRE THE DEATH CHARGES!

(While we're at it: depth charges have nothing to do with firing or being fired, underwater or not.  ^-^ )

Just sprinkle American cigarettes on the water, they will open the hatch to get them.

Chinese and Russian navies are holding joint training exercises in the Med.

QuoteThe exercises also illustrate China's continued engagement with Russia at a time when Moscow has been shunned by much of the international community over its support for separatist rebels in Ukraine.

The "Joint Sea 2015" exercises will feature nine surface ships, including three from China that are currently taking part in anti-piracy patrols off the coast of Somalia, ministry spokesman Geng Yansheng told a monthly news conference.

The drills involve rescue, resupply and other missions, including the firing of live ammunition, Geng said.

^^ Russian naval exercises? You mean belly dancing? :o

"Russia's virtual wargames have real consequences. Alexei Levinson, a sociologist, writes that "under this light moral anaesthetic, the country is getting used to actions which only a short while ago seemed unthinkable and impossible." Opinion polls show that 90% of Russians are prepared to discuss the possibility of nuclear war. While 57% of older Russians say that such a war cannot have any winners, 40% of younger people are convinced that Russia would defeat America and NATO. As Mr Levinson puts it, "A real war starts to look like a TV show or a computer game in which you have ten lives in reserve."

The public may be starting to think of nuclear war as acceptable but I am curious to see how many in the military there are thinking the same thing.
