I think attitudes would change quickly if bullets started flying.

I wouldn't count on that Star, too much weak leadership, especially here in the US.  These aren't the days of Reagan, Thatcher, and Kohl.

Heh.

We were on vaca a week or so ago. Toured a zoo. There was a group of Canadians in the front of a line of our group at one point and the guide was letting us into an area of the tour. As she did so she told the Canadians to lead the way.

Naturally, I piped up and objected because they were Canadians. Of course all I knew about them was that they were from Canada. Later they came over for a friendly chat to see who the smartass was. Turns out they were a church group. When I told them I knew a bunch of Canadians from online and we constantly haze each other they thought that was pretty funny and we all had a laugh.

Good times. It was almost as if you guys were there with me 8)

I think hitler made a similar mistake in his opinions about western powers in 1939.
Jarhead - Yeah. You're probably right.

Gus - I use sweatpants with flannel shorts to soak up my crotch sweat.

Banzai Cat - There is no "partial credit" in grammar. Like anal sex. It's either in, or it's not.

Mirth - We learned long ago that they key isn't to outrun Star, it's to outrun Gus.

Martok - I don't know if it's possible to have an "anti-boner"...but I now have one.

Gus - Celery is vile and has no reason to exist. Like underwear on Star.

Be nice to avoid a repeat of that little adventure.

+1

A nearly exact parallel happened about three decades ago. One of the weakest and worst presidents of our time was followed by Reagan (and Thatcher and Kohl more or less). We may not be able to see that next leader yet, but I suspect they're out there and will emerge in the next year or so.

It would be nice to avoid it, but I'm afraid it's almost baked into the cake at this point. O has screwed things up royally and is now trying to run out the clock before things get really bad.

He was always domestically focused, specifically the desires of black America.

Obama? I don't mean to be contrary here, but there is a growing story line about just how badly Obama has failed to help black Americans. IMHO some of the unrest we've seen in Baltimore and Ferguson can be attributed to cognitive dissonance within the black community - they had very high (probably unrealistic) hopes when Obama was elected. It was unlikely those hopes would have ever been met, but the reality is even worse: he's done virtually nothing to help the black community.

QuoteByron Allen has branded President Barack Obama 'a white president in blackface'.

The comedian, who is also black, gave a rambling interview to TMZ about Obama's description of rioters in Baltimore as 'thugs', which he said was unjustified.

He accused the president of not acting 'like a black man' and of failing to 'stand up' for the African American community, which is being 'failed by the system'.

Black people, he concluded, have never been worse off, adding: 'Black America would have done much better with a white president.'

It's a real shame as Obama had the chance to do some great things for American and minorities in America. He really could have strengthened us as a nation and a people. I suspect that failure may ultimately be the one he's judged harshest on, but there's good competition for his failure of foreign policy so it may have to be declared a tie.

That's probably my #1 complaint with Obama...the potential good squandered.

As far as Hitler, in 1939 and 1940 he was spot on. His real mistakes were in biting off more than he could chew by attacking the USSR and then declaring war on the US after Pearl Harbor.

He made plenty of mistakes, but the West was on its knees by the summer of 1940. Hitler didn't need any outside help in Germany's destruction. Not sure if Putin will make the same kinds of.critical errors.

Do you believe that story line? If so I will go with it, you have a better view of the action than me. Part of me suspects that whatever he does, they will always demand more, call him an Oreo, then be shocked checks arnt piled in their mail.

I think the story has a ring of truth to it. By virtually every economic indicator poor blacks are no better off and possibly worse off under Obama.

It strikes me that the machinery of any democracy is difficult to change, be it the USA, Canada, Australia or where ever.  Therefore there is only so much that Obama can do without widespread congressional support, or dictatorial powers.

Mr. Bigglesworth

I would say his biggest failing is talking down to the legislative leaders. As soon as he started that, he was doomed. Everything else followed even if they were mildly hostile from day one.

As for foregn policy, both Russia and China have realized they would eventually win an occupation. They are free to invade others because they cannot be invaded in retaliation.
