I've been told by more than one person that the "Flip Table" option can be disabled by the host.

Perhaps I should just put it in a sig line to avoid repeating it every few posts.  :buck2:

Nah, I get that it can be disabled. I question the intelligence/sanity of the developer that thought it was a good idea in the first place.

They were obviously grilled pretty badly on it since they patched the option in.  ;D

I certainly refused to buy it in the original state.

For the record, my son adores the option, even as he respectfully moves his pieces in hotseat games.  It shocks the senses to know that it was ever anything but optional, but why in heaven's name would anyone play an on-line game with someone given to that...

Except Doug...

And Vance...

And Cap'n Darwin...

And probably Brant...

And maybe Bob...certainly his facial hair...

Nevermind...

The way I understand it there's an option for third-parties to enter the game and "flip the table" of an ongoing game other people are playing. That's the bit that seems crazy to me. Hey, you want to flip your own table, you go right ahead!

I'm not sure I see the need for a physics engine for playing a board game, but evidently others do and that's cool. I just don't get the reasoning why you'd need to turn it into a social media thing that allows someone else to come ruin the game you're playing.

I played Go, Axis and Allies: D-Day, and one or two others in brief sessions over the weekend and enjoyed the experience...although the lack of rules enforcement is something I hold against both this system and VASSAL.

I fiddled around a bit with Puerto Rico and Betryal at the House on the Hill in single player just to get comfortable with the controls.  I then went online to see if I could find a game of either but didn't have any luck there.

A few observations:

  • I like the ALT-zoom function.  It lets you look at counters, tiles, cards or whatever without upsetting the pieces on the board.

  • I really don't like the default drop height.  It seems too high and makes accurate chit placement problematic at times as the pieces sometimes bounce or you can't see the shadow due to interference from the hand cursor.

  • I haven't actually seen it in action but I'm a bit worried about the hidden area on the table edge.  I like that you can place cards here that will be hidden from other players but I found that sorting them there was a bit finicky and they'd sometimes flop out onto the table or fall off the edge and then warp into the middle of the table where everyone could see them.
