Sir Slash

Good to know. Thanks Mirth.

More importantly, how'd Emilia Clarke's dragon bewbies look?

Just got home from watching this. I dunno. I'd give it a 6/10, maybe 7/10, but that's pushing it. It was kind of lame overall. And I actually kind of liked Terminator: Salvation. T3 also had its moments, too. This one, not so much. The plot was harebrained and convoluted and made very little sense. It was like they were trying to pull off a Star Trek Reboot-esque thing with differing timelines but they failed epically. I almost fell asleep twice, too.

Jason Clarke was a lame Terminator. He looks like a Jehovah's Witness, not a killing machine. They could have gone with someone with at least some kind of hint of threat, like Brett Dalton (Ward from Agents of SHIELD), or maybe Barney the Dinosaur. I kept thinking he was going to talk and CGI everyone to death and ask anyone if they wanted salvation from the Lord.

Schwarzenegger is pushing it as an action hero, but he still has a presence on the screen unlike any of his co-stars, whom all seem to be weak struts supporting the otherwise massive legacy that Ah-nold had created.

I didn't like at all that they re-shot the observatory scene (with the naked Terminator demanding clothes of a punk-rock Bill Paxton). They could have easily just used that original one and used CGI on body actors to portray those dudes - that would have been some serious homage to the original, instead of using a bunch of douchenozzles that were some of the worst actors I've seen - it was like a high school play rendition of The Terminator. That made what follow - the fight between the old and young Terminators - kinda meh.

They did try to explain how this was a different set of events, in that Sarah Connor and the Terminator were waiting for Reese (just ain't the same without Biehn playing him), but it just didn't make sense. Once the Arnold Terminator went back in time, you'd think everything would have changed, but the whole plot was so insanely Machiavellian that I don't think the time stream even knew what direction it was going in and it kind of farted out a shit-smell of a plot to distract everyone from the fact that none of it made sense.

Speaking of Biehn, it would have been really nice if they had figured out a way of bringing him into this. If they're going to play fast and loose with timelines, I mean, what the hell, why not? Linda Hamilton would have been awesome, too. Or even Joe Norton instead of the two Ambiguous Boss Man 1 and 2 characters. Norton would have made a HUGE impression there as a tie-in to T2. Instead we get a couple of cardboard cut-outs.

And it would have made much more sense to bring in Earl Boen (Dr. Hamilton, from both T1 and T2) instead of J.K. Simmons. Tying him in as the cop from the department store scene was ham-fisted and just dumb. At least when they had Boen's character in T2 it had a tie-in with T1. Having him in this would have lended much more credibility. Instead, we have this mess.

If you liked it, great. It wasn't my cup of tea. I wasn't impressed once during the entire run of the film, and in fact, I think the trailers captured pretty much everything interesting about the movie - WHICH I HATE. I can't stand when movies do that. So very disappointing. It would have been better if they'd just been more convoluted in the trailers and had word of mouth talking about the 'twist' with John Connor. Excuse me, Brother Connor looking to spread the ideals of The Watch Tower Society.

And at the end - you'd think he would have made himself look young again. If you've seen it, you know what I'm meaning. Or they could have had some fun with it.

Overall it just tried to take itself way too seriously and paid only cursory lip service to the previous films. It didn't feel right once.

Bleh.

6/10, tops. More like 5/10, the more I think about it. Enrages me to think of what potential this had, but they just blew all to hell.

Harsh. I took it as summer fun. I thought Salvation was alright. T3 was a horrid mess though imho.

I agree about Reese. Biehn owns the part to this day. Jai Courtney was a non-entity and the total lack of chemistry between him and Emilia Clarke made it seem silly that they would ever hook up.

I didn't mind the reshot scene from 84. I didn't need to see an exact replication with the original actors.

I liked having J.K. Simmons around (he's one of my favorite character actors), but I agree there wasn't much point to his role. It felt more like someone said, "Hey, let's put J.K. Simmons in this thing".

I went in with very low expectations for this movie and in the end it just felt like a decent, fun summer film. I thought Arnie brought the right amount of humor to the part and it was nice to have him in the role one more time.

After so many dogs and disappointments over the past few years (Prometheus, all those horrid Transformer movies, Godzilla, Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, Jurassic World, I could go on) this felt fun and enjoyable. Was it perfect, was it great? No, but it fit the bill.

Just because I didn't like it, doesn't mean nobody else did.   O0

Your points were valid. Honestly, I'm surprised I enjoyed it as much as I did. 8 months ago when I saw that first trailer, I figured I completely despise it.

I had high hopes for this. Arnold's not getting any younger and time and again they screw it all up.

I understand too that possibly they DID go seeking those other actors, but could not either because they weren't available or just were not interested. I have no idea if that's the case or if they just chose to be dullards about it.

I'm so tired of 'meh' in the movies. Nothing seems to have an edge or a challenge anymore.

This is the first 'old Arnold' movie I've enjoyed. Everything else he's done since being Governator has been dreadful. Makes me somewhat hopeful for the new Conan movie.

It would have cool to have Michael Biehn back, but I was never a huge Linda Hamilton fan anyway. I thought Emilia Clarke did a decent enough job in the role. I liked how they brought in Danny Dyson as a touch point from T2.

I recently re-watched T2 and as awesome as it was, Eddie Furlong wasn't all that great in retrospect and there's plenty of dumb things in that movie as well. The first one was pretty decent sci-fi with some horror elements, the rest have been closer to fantasy.

I dunno, my standards and expectations have been probably been dulled by the seemingly unending stream of crap Hollywood has generated in the past 5 years. I don't think it's a great sign that the Marvel movies are the new gold standard. Fun films, but hardly groundbreaking.

I dunno, his cameos in The Expendables were pretty good. Then again he wasn't headlining any of those movies. The Last Stand wasn't too bad. Not brilliant by any stretch of the imagination, but I'd watch it again.

I must have missed that. Was he one of the boss dudes? If he was in the movie, he must have only had a two-second cameo. Unless I fell asleep at that point.

Furlong is just a trainwreck of a human being. I never liked him much as an actor. He's a good example of burning fast and hot and then disappearing to the B- and C-movie cellars. Still, some actors would kill to have that kind of experience.

Mine, I suppose, remain high. I still unfortunately extrapolate classic movie times from earlier in my life and expect to be wowed in that regard these days, and outside of Marvel, that's not happened much. Even inside of Marvel, it's been a rare thing, but I will re-watch just about any of those movies. Almost any of them.

It's pretty sad - Hollywood continues to make crap, it hits the box office and makes hundreds of millions, so they continue to make crap even if the majority of people report it as such. Movies like Jurassic World make huge bank because people remember how good Jurassic Park was and want to recapture that experience. So they ALL go, and it makes it look like a blockbuster when in fact it's about as entertaining as Clive Cussler's Raise the Titanic.

Terminator Genisys is like most movies I see. I REALLY wanted to like it and REALLY wanted to have a good time with it, but it just felt like the producers and directors and actors were phoning all of it in. "Hey, it's got "Terminator" in the title - the muppets out there will eat it up! We're gonna be rich!"

saw it today and I'd give it a 7/8ish out of 10.

pretty much my biggest disappointment was Matt Smiths character.  I would have like to see more of him.
Jarhead - Yeah. You're probably right.

Gus - I use sweatpants with flannel shorts to soak up my crotch sweat.

Banzai Cat - There is no "partial credit" in grammar. Like anal sex. It's either in, or it's not.

Mirth - We learned long ago that they key isn't to outrun Star, it's to outrun Gus.

Martok - I don't know if it's possible to have an "anti-boner"...but I now have one.

Gus - Celery is vile and has no reason to exist. Like underwear on Star.

Agreed about Matt Smith. He's another one they seemed to shove into the movie without much purpose or screen time.
