Anyone playing this? I am not an HPS fan namely due to the horrid VGA graphics (for which there is truly no excuse) but if you are looking for tactical roman warfare, options are limited. I can't do total war anymore, so looking for something new. I read the Wargamer review but was interested to hear some opinions for you guys.

Graphics seem better than the American civil war games and the nappy games....more like Greek wars so thats something...

I purchased it upon release and haven't played it much.  To me, the game just wasn't intuitive and hard to understand.  Its a shame, since I like the material and time period.  It has been on the shelf ever since.  Reading a bit about its latest patch seems to have made it even more difficulty.  Graphics are a tad better than civil war and such, but still not up to today's standards.

Some day I will give it a try again, just too many other things to focus on:(

Haven't played this, but you might want to check out Field of Glory.

The game looks only slightly better than the old Great Battles of Caesar or Centurion: Defender of Rome and the interface even looks like it's worse, so I don't really have much of an interest in such a game, particularly at that price.

Haven't tried field of glory but I have played tin soldiers. I like it but both there are too few units to control. Shame about the UI. I could deal with either bad graphics or bad UI but both is too much.

I do not have Roman Civil Wars yet but enjoy the other Ancient Wars games. The looks is nice. I miss however more feedback on who exactly is attacking.

Another option is: Tin Soldiers: Julius Caesar...once you finish the conquest of the Gauls, you get to fight various battles from the civil war.

Option 3: Great battles of Rome (Legion Arena Gold +) where you can also fight various battles of the civil war (you also have to get there by first progressing in the campaign.

Probably better off trying to find the old Great Battles Collectors Edition.  It still works in WinVista/7.  Unsurprisingly, it looks about as good (or better) than these current Tiller games.  ;D    I need to go dig mine out.  8)

Thanks guys. May just have to wait on longbow's Hegemony rome (although not much tactical there) and AGEODS new one for some operational stuff.

Historically, it's the best around. I don't worry about graphics and am willing to deal with the UI. Field of Glory is fun but simplistic.

I personally cannot wait for Hegemony: Rome. Hegemony Gold really grabbed me and got me interested in an era I never had interest in before. Hard to give it more of a compliment than that.
