Stealth release.  It's apparently been out of EA for a little while now.  I think this screen shot from the tutorial will give most of you wood.

Ultimate Space Commando was recently released.

Anyone tried this release version and it's campaign system yet?

I've been close to purchasing this a couple times.

But I'm on the fence about how the campaign plays out.  I had originally thought it was supposed to have some kind of team management and soldier progression.  I get the impression the campaign isn't as deep as I had originally hoped and may just be some linked scenarios with some carryover or something.  Waiting to see what the details are on the campaign(s).

Edit:  I remember my hold-up now.  The campaign is ~30 missions which are "semi-randomized", which I take to mean that you'll be seeing the same maps after a bit..?  Didn't see anything about the maps being procedural.

I'm still in the first mission of the campaign (the tutorial) but I get the impression that there are branch points and some decision making between missions.  The game makes a big deal about not being able to go back and change the decisions you make between missions, so I guess there's some dynamic aspect to it.

I finished the first campaign mission and there definitely is team management and progression.  The campaign gives 4 teams of 4 units because there is sometimes an option at the end of a mission for the squad to remain on the planet for R&R or to repair something or another, and it won't become available again until another couple of missions have been completed. Between missions you can heal, repair armor and weapons, and build new equipment with blueprints and materials you've found.  After each mission there appears to be a choice of 2 or more missions in which the story will branch, and perhaps a side mission or two.

Combat has everything you would want - lots of weapons using different kinds of ammo, overwatch, cover, terrain that is not only destructable but can be manipulated to create choke points, and friendly fire (although there is a toggle to turn it off).

Graphics are passable.  Right now my only complaint would be a mini-game that you play to hack doors so that they open.  It looks complicated and isn't explained anywhere, but a tutorial has been promised.  In the meantime time doors can either be blasted open or opened with a key card.

Thanks tgb!

I plan on getting it at some point.  Sounds like it has enough continuity to qualify for some fun.   O0

After the Summer Sale, I still have numerous untouched titles glaring at me from my Steam Library.  :-[
