Several actors were -- I think a new one played him each time. (Checking, yep; had forgotten Eli Wallach played him last!) But yes -- though I don't know how many others were world-class directors! (I had forgotten Diana Rigg was even ever on the show...?  ??? Oh, you meant on the Avengers, duh...  )

I heartily recommend the article series by Chris Sims at ComicsAlliance, doing a review of every episode once a week (and nearing the end of the first season I think): http://comicsalliance.com/tags/batman-66-episode-guide/ Obviously they're in reverse order with the newest ones on top.

His Batman film review series is excellent, too. That two page list is slightly out of order, with 89 Batman reposted for its 25th anniversary near the end. I seem to recall a few of the pages once didn't link right, though that was hopefully fixed by the editors when they went back to post the first review of the series.
