A giant ball of FLYING red squid has been found off the coast of Turkey.

CNN, sadly, has not properly understood the danger. Their soundtrack is way off base. Someone needs to strip it and replace it with something more appropriate...like Midnight Syndicate.

The old that is strong does not wither,
Deep roots are not reached by the frost.

Goldang liberal media. Where's Rush when we need him?

Rush? He was last seen swimming off the coast of Turkey.

I'll be under my bed if you need me.

Is SoM under there with you? Or do we think he's part of the Cthulhu welcoming committee?

He's probably morphed into an angler fish and is luring Rush to its lair right now.

I love it when you're in a place you can't run from.
Jarhead - Yeah. You're probably right.

Gus - I use sweatpants with flannel shorts to soak up my crotch sweat.

Banzai Cat - There is no "partial credit" in grammar. Like anal sex. It's either in, or it's not.

Mirth - We learned long ago that they key isn't to outrun Star, it's to outrun Gus.

Martok - I don't know if it's possible to have an "anti-boner"...but I now have one.

Gus - Celery is vile and has no reason to exist. Like underwear on Star.

QuoteWe may have found water on Mars, but something far stranger is happening inside Saturn.

Astronomers have noticed unusual movement in Saturn's rings. Here's the discovery in layman's terms: Generally, the ice and rocks that make up the rings travel outwards because of the gravitational pull -- but for some reason the debris seems to be moving towards the center of planet, leading scientists to believe something is moving deep within the gas giant. The astronomers speculate an object far beneath the surface is spinning at a speed of one rotation every seven hours.

Scientists hope by studying the movement of the rings, they'll be able to determine what's going on inside the planet.

"Even dropping a probe into the atmosphere would not necessarily help a lot, because the probe will only get down to a pressure of five or 10 atmospheres before it gets cooked or squashed,"the planetary scientist leading the analysis told Space.com. "We need to go much deeper to understand this."

A cousin of Cthulu, perhaps?  Or are the aliens finally re-igniting our 2nd sun?  ::)

LOL.

The reason the debris in the rings "travels outward" is due to their speed.  Which is balanced by the planet's gravity, of course, to create their relatively steady orbit via centrifugal effect.

It's not just military hardware details journalists screw up!  :))

Ahem. Centripetal effect.

(Fun science / engineering fact: there is no such thing as the centrifugal force. It can still be calculated, but it's sort of a useful legal fiction. The effect comes from the real force, which is centripetal. The article is still wrong. ;) )

I don't remember much from engineering classes, including how to calculate the damn things, but I will take that bit of knowledge to my grave.  And trot it out occasionally to blow people's minds. O0
