You never hear about this.  DeGaulle was also shot at in Notre Dame.  What weird moment.  a twentieth century gunfight in a medieval cathedral.

Churchill and Roosevelt thought de Gaulle was a wannabe tyrant and would have been worse for France post-war than the Nazis ever were. They didn't want him anywhere near the leadership reins of France, so had that bullet connected, I imagine those two would have gone "meh, whatever."

With a nose like that how could they miss? I've often thought that rather than try to defend France, the Germans should have withdrawn from it before the invasion, and let the French, the allies, and the Communists fight it out for control while they made a get-away east.
